  1. Hi Nelson, Having just bought a 2008 A4 B8 with MMI DVD Nav (2G I guess), but no AMI, I've been looking into having it fitted. Is it only certain dealers doing it at £399 or should it be all of them? My local dealer have just quoted £575..... Alternatively does anyone know if there would be warranty implications in having it done by a third party installer?
  2. Thanks everyone. Doesn't look like it should be too much of a problem for the neighbours then. From what I've seen, it's only the Carrera 4 that has PSM as standard, as I've looked at a number of C2 facelift cars without it. Colinjc thanks for the tip, I'd love a C4S, but am away a lot with work, so the bigger boot in a C2 is pretty important to me. (Lame, I know!) Thanks again for the replies.
  3. Hi all, I'm considering buying a facelift 996C2. I've just driven one with the switchable exhaust and while it sounded fantastic on the open road, it would definately annoy the neighbours when I have an early start at work. To that end, do you know if when you start the car it defaults to either sports or quiet mode, or does it remember what you had selected when you last turned off the ignition? As an aside, how important do you all think PSM is on a C2? Garages keep telling me it's not that desirable an option, but then they are stocking cars without it fitted, so that's not too surprising! Thanks for your expertise.
  4. Mine did this a few times last winter. It only seemed to be when the days were really cold, and it was fine once I'd pulled the pedal back up again. Made me think the clutch cable had gone first time it happened though! Did a bit of investigation and I'm told it may well be a master/slave cylinder fault. That didn't sound cheap, and it's been fine ever since, so I've left it so far...
  5. Showing 33.6mpg since I got it last May. Commute to work is down the M4, otherwise it's countryside and small town driving. Unmolested 225 running optimax/Tesco 99 Octane. And it does get spanked from time to time....
  6. Had Fontain fit it to mine at the last service about three months ago. Looks like it's been there from day one and works perfectly. Expensive if the stalk only costs £35 but it's not something I'd try myself.....
  7. Tried both when I was replacing my M5. The A3 had the ability to pull in any gear from low speeds that multi cylinder engines are blessed with, and made a great noise, but the S3 was cheaper to buy, more economical to run, just as much fun to drive and IMO endowed with more of a sense of occasion than the new A3. 8. Hi all, On my last couple of journeys my clutch pedal has gone towards the floor during the first few gearchanges. It then seems to spring back and return to normal. Looking back on the forum it seems that the prob could be either low clutch fluid, or a cylinder failure. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas of the cost of a new master/slave cylinder from stealers/specialists and also whether any pressure on Audi will make them contribute towards the cost. (Car is 4 months out of warranty, 34k and non-chipped) Also, which fluid resevoir does the clutch use, is it one that can easily be checked, or is it tucked away under the car somewhere. Many thanks for any advice anyone has. Hackers 2002 S3 225
  9. Thanks for the replies everyone. Tian, I'll try everything you suggest then maybe go for the aeros. Chilli, as far as I'm aware it is possible to retrofit the aero wipers. I've seen a number of threads on them here before and no one has ever mentioned any restrictions on fitting them.
  10. Hi all, Since getting my 02 S3 I've found that the wipers make a loud click as they change direction at the top of the sweep. The noise comes from the top right (drivers side) area of the screen. This might sound small, but on a three hour drive in rain it drives you demented! I've had the wiper alignment checked by the stealer, changed the blades, and had some small scratches taken out by a glass repairer who also polished the area with glass polish. Unfortunately nothing has worked. Anyone seen this before, or got any ideas? Thanks
  11. If it helps, I replaced my '99 M5 with an '02 S3. I fell in love with the R32, which was the other option, when I drove one, however I was getting rid of the M5 to go for something cheaper to run, and the S3 fit the bill better. At the moment I get about 35mpg (lots of motorway stuff). If you're just looking for something a bit different though, and the running costs aren't so crucial, I'd be very tempted by an R32. That noise is enough......just a shame it's a mkIV Golf!
  12. Hi all. Just about to reinsure my S3. I aim to get it remapped before too long and bearing in mind the recent thread about insurance, I'll be declaring it. Just wondering who you have all found are sympathetic (and cheap) and which insurers won't touch the car once it's modded. I'm currently with Elephant but their renewal quote was pants! Thanks
  13. If it helps, I used to have a gunmetal Elise. Someone opened a door into the side of it taking off paint in an area about the size of a golf ball. Before I sold it I had chips away do that, some other minor scratches and an alloy wheel. All the work was excellent and extremely difficult to spot, so I'd definately use them again.
  14. Hi All, Just got myself a 2002 S3 last week. It's a fantastic little car and I'm well chuffed with it. As usual though for a newbie I've got a couple of questions I was hoping some of you may be able to help with. Firstly I've got a Chorus Head unit with the 6 cd boot changer. When I set Random:Changer on the CD menu, it still only randomly plays from the current CD. Am I missing something, or does the unit just not allow you to have random play throughout the whole changer? Also, any top tips for a remap? It seems to be between AmD, Revo and APR. I've looked back through this site and they all seem fairly highly rated. Anyone got any latest info? I'll be fitting Cruise Control at the same time so APR looks pretty good at the moment. Thanks very much for any help you can give me.
  15. Guys, thank you all for your useful replies about the imports and prices. Unfortunately I've had to let the head rule for once and have just bought a late, mint Audi S3. I'm waiting for the inevitable flaming , but hey - at least I'm not a BMW driver anymore....... Thanks again for your help.
