putz
thats excellent, thanks for taking the time to post those up. Anyone got access to etka to find out the part numbers we need? I know that the actual gas struts are a different part no. between the normal and convienience release models, m I already changed my struts but this alone is not enough to get it to work, we just need to fit this spring-assembly on the right hand side I think. Am I correct in thinking the left hand side hinge is just the same? and we only need to fit parts to the right hand hinge?
edmundson
It says on ETKA spring part No. 4F5827665A 2 off Strut part No. 8E5827552K 2 off

putz
I just ordered the two springs, £9 each from Audi, I already have the different gas struts fitted. Not sure wether or not the springs will fit onto my original boot hinges though? but for twenty quid I'll give the springs a try and see what they are like when they arrive next week. putz
The gas struts are also a different part number, the auto opening struts are 8E5827552K and the original struts are 8E5827552J. These numbers are for B7 saloon, not sure what the difference is, they are the same physical size as each other. Maybe they run a differnet internal gas pressure? I bought a pair anyway, £45. I have also ordered the springs so I will attempt an install next weekend.
putz
OK, So I got the call from Audi today to say that the two springs that I ordered have arrived. I'll collect them on friday and see how simple a job it will be!

putz
OK, well these are the springs, part no. 4F5827665A, they look correct with reference to the picture below However the fixing points for the spring, circled in red below are not fitted to my boot hinges, so it looks like new boot hinges are required to complete this mod, Bugger! putz
Is that for the ones with the correct fiitings on? Dont suppose your version of ETKA gives prices does it? I bet they wont be cheap and will probably need painting as well. I so should've specced this when I bought the car!!
edmundson
sorry no prices
putz
I'll check out the prices next time I'm at Audi, unless anyone else has access to prices? I think they could be pretty expensive, so it might be the end of the road for this retro-fit....
TDiAvant
£23.74p each
putz
Ah, thanks for posting those up I guess that they wont come pre-painted but I can get someone to paint them if required. I was expecting the price to be much higher than that from Audi, given their usual reputation for high parts prices! Maybe this retro-fit isnt dead yet.... davidhayes
Mine has two "helpers" in the lower part of the trim around the bootlid aperture near the bumper. These push the bootlid up when the key is pressed / boot release in the door is used.
putz
Are you sure? I was led to believe the actual lock mechanism was the same and the only additional parts were fitted to the hinges. Could you post a picture or two?
