Rocket_Man
I need to get a new near-side headlight (cracked glass). I can find some to buy from Germany but not in the UK. Are they the same as ours?
Dan32
No, they are LHD and RHD specific and no way of switching them over. You could buy really cheap aftermarket lights, heat the glue up on the glass, pull out the glass, and reinstall back in the broken one. Very cheap way of repairing them compared with whatever silly money VW still want for them. You could keep an eye on ebay but they tend to be like rocking horse poo 2nd hand. mb
You could try your friendly VW repair shop as I believe they are prone to cracking at the mounting points in accidents you may be able to get one to take apart ?
Dan32
I'm in the process of attempting to split open an OEM xenon without damaging the glass and the standard glue is unbelievable strong. Several hours in and still the glass is stuck on! The aftermarket headlights use glue which can be gently heated which allows you to prise the glass off in one piece. With a smashed OEM xenon, you can remove the rest of the glass and with sharp knife, cut as much of the old glue out, put your replacement glass in, and bond it back together with something like Tigerseal.
