mikemod
Just normal with the direct injection engine. I thought mine sounded like a diesel until I heard a real diesel start up. Mine sounds OK now

farmerpalmer
Mines a ed30, and it sounds like a Massey-Ferguson on start up. It does sound a bit better when warmed up.

[/ QUOTE ] Hi there .....is this the norm for ed30, mine does it also. also on tick over makes what I can only decribe as tick tick tick type noises from the front of the engine..I have been asured that both noises are the norm on this engine..any others had this .... Tarmac_Terrorist
What causes the ticking noise? I know many have passed comment on it here in the past but I don't experience it myself which makes me wonder if it is just some models? I normally notice these things on cars too. Who else out there does NOT experience this?
JonnyGTi
[ QUOTE ] Who else out there does NOT experience this? [/ QUOTE ] Well I've just changed my GTi for a new ED 30 and there is a huge difference in the engine sound at start up My old GTi sounded very diesel like, but the new ED 30 does'nt sound like a diesel at all, so you can count me as someone who now does'nt experience it TT The first thing both me and my friend said on starting up the Ed 30 at the dealers was how much better the engine and exhaust sounded. dogbucket
The ticking noise is the high pressure direct cylinder injectors. Quite pronounced on my Ed30, I am sure without that it would sound fairly normal.
Simonl
The old 1.8T was the same, if not worse. How it sounds on the road is more important!
