RedRobin
According to some, my car may no longer be a GTI. Certainly one of the two GTI's pictured here is fake - Which one? All will be revealed in due course.

Spot
White headlining is another obvious give-a-way? I think I may need to get out more?

RedRobin
[ QUOTE ] the blue one... [/ QUOTE ] .... Absolutely classic!! I didn't see that one coming! I should have put this thread in General Cars to share the jokes more .
Tarmac_Terrorist
iirc 55 plate GTI's still had blue tints - the one on the right is green
oxfordlad
ALl that aside, have to admit, not a bad attempt!
Spot
No side skirts either, no lip on front spoiler, no shiny 'B' post trim..... Nerd? Me?
RedRobin
It's a very good attempt and got me fooled from the front view at very first glance. The rear is much more of a giveaway - Where the heck are the exhausts!? The story is that the bodyshop who painted and fitted my CF bonnet had been asked to make a standard Mk5 Golf look like a GTI because the owner couldn't afford one and also something about being too young for the insurance - which begs the question of how much did the bodywork conversion cost? Tricky to sell on one day I would imagine.

khutula
Does it not invalidate your insurance if you badge a car up to be something it isn't?
stooH
What a pointless waste of time (IMHO). I have several views about what should be done to people that do things like that... Sticking a potato up their exhaust (if you can find it) would be one of the politest ones. (You can take that metaphorically or literally I care not)
TwoSheds
No GTI rear roof spoiler as well.....a good giveaway from the rear normally.

alexc
If you know your GTIs then there are plenty of obvious giveaways...
CrowdedHouse
That's a really sad way way to waste money
RedRobin
....Isn't it just! A bit more money (one assumes) and they could have had the real thing. Or if they couldn't afford to run it then an honest cheaper car would have been better. I'd rather have something like the new Fiat 500 or Panda than a fake something more expensive. mb
Apart from the badging I don't think it is so bad to emulate the style of a sportier model eg tinted lights, spoiler, wheels etc. as they look better which is why VW style them different to the bas emodel. Must admit the R32 replica I saw with twin zorsts but still the std interior etc. did look rather poor though so maybe this one is more of an affront to a GTi owner ? JoeGTI
That reminds me of this one, which I've seen up close myself... it had me fooled at first! http://www.carzone.ie/usedcars/index.cfm?fuseaction=car&carID=821589
