Dirk
YOUR EXPERIENCE IS NEEDED !! I will have a new catback, because my good old stock exhaust has begun to rattle (especially when cold) which kills my nervs. My wallet (and wife) allows not to spend money for high flows cats AND a catback, so I´m (only) looking for a custom made catback exhaust which should also support my engine with 268/264 schrick cams, modified DSG intake and new software setting for an extra handfull of horsepower. Today i talked with a guy from an exhaust shop for an individual exhaust. He said, that they normaly uses a pipe with 60mm (2,36") diameter for the Mk4 R32, but i can have also an exhaust with 65mm (2,56") or 70mm (2,76") pipes. They can´t give any guarantee for extra power. For comparison: The original R32 MK4 catback is only 57,0mm (2,24") thick and have these bottleneck (you now what i mean). The Milltek for the MkIV is a straight 63,5mm (2,5"), while the Milltek for the MkV is a straight 70,0mm (2,76"), i guess. Which pipe diameter would you guys recommend for my application (sound, power) ? Many thanks in advance
Mook
You won't get any noticeable increase in power by using a larger diameter pipe of an extra 5mm diameter. It will possibly reduce back-pressure, depending on the silencer used, so you are risking losing torque. Don't forget that you have an option of the Blue Flame exhaust in addition to the Milltek. Dirk
losing torque/power only because of reduced back-pressure through a catback is a myth :-) as long as you have the OEM cats there is plenty of back pressure still present !! did anybody now, why the OEM/Milltek exhaust for the Mk5 has a bigger diameter then the one for the Mk4 R32 ??? Which diameter has the Blueflame ???

mb
The Milltek ones certainly fill the gaps nicely
Dirk
Boys... question was not about the tail pipes and how they fit in the gaps. Question was regarding the pipe diameter in front of the muffler. The Milltek exhaust for the Mk5 R32 has a 2,75" diameter, but the one for the Mk4 R32 has a 2,5"...did anybody knows why ??? Mook
Have you tried asking Milltek? Maybe when you find out, you could share the answer with everyone on here
