fatcat
Glimpsed over at a very nice looking silvery/grey A2 this morning on a 'W' plate, the plate was old but the car was spanking new, but what really caught my eye was the small rectangular rear and front grill badge, I'm sure I saw 'Quattro' Is this a wannabee, or are there really A2 Quattro's out there ! Drillslinger
What's a "W" reg? If it's not a "Concept" or test vehicle from Audi, then it's gotta be a wannabe cause AFAIK they never produced the A2 w/Quattro
fatcat
Quick lesson for Drillbob on british registrations (or licence plates )........ Since I think 1961 the driving licencing authority has issued plates to owners that not only identify the year of registration but also where the vehicle was registered. My first car had the number NKX 949D N was random KX depicted where the car was registered, these 2 letters were not abbreviated in the slightest to reflect the location of the cars actual palce of registration, for example KX was in fact a place called 'Slough' 949 was a random number and D was the year of registration, in this case my car was first registered in 1966 (when England won the world cup, WHAAHAAAYYYYY)............, however due to the arse about face system 'D' could also have been 1965 or 1966 as the registration year went from August 31st and not January ??? In the 80's the system reversed,so that the plate D949 NKX would have been registered in 1985 or 1986. In 2000 we removed the alpha pre-fix and went for an alpha numeric system - but I ain't gonna try and explain that one mate.... So a 'W' plate would have belonged to car first registered in 2000. The current owner of the A2 Whateveritis had transferred this plate from a older car to the present one. Simple eh
Drillslinger
Uhhh, yeah, easy as pie So you really don't know what year the A2 was then
peterb
I guess that the very earliest A2 in the UK could have been a 'W' reg, but I don't think that they were available to the public at that time. As for quattro - I don't believe that Audi have any intention of making an A2 with 4wd. So, I guess that this was a 'wanabee', or an A2 which had been substantially modded. However, I wouldn't say no to an A2 TDi with quattro (especially the new 90PS version) - even on a dry road it is very easy to provoke loss of traction. [/ QUOTE ] It could have been this Peter, so you may well be right. Fancy sticking on a Quattro badge when it obviously ain't ! Mind you, the car looked so clean and neat, it did'nt need any wannabee badges at all
shao_khan
there might have been a guy on the a2 forum with q badges. cant remember now.

shao_khan
We didnt get a sline in the uk either.
Sven
Yeah, but that could have been imported maybe? Whereas an A2 Quattro doesn't exist anywhere IMO.
niaz5
I agree no such thing and am not sure that Audi wants to go that way either for a A2. Sven, looks like you have your finger in the all pies, or is that an apple strudel........ niaz
Stuart_D
I can tell you for sure that the 'A2 1.4 Quattro' does not exist anywhere! It sure would be fun if it did though! I have come across many people who have seriously modified their A2 and stuck quattro or s-line badges on them though. This probably what you saw. s4_sat
there's two a2s goin about with s2 badges on up here. they're both 1.4s with quad exhaust pipes and bodykits.
shao_khan
What like this kind of thing?
s4_sat
nah, more chavtastic than that. quad exhausts and bodykits and 18" alloys. they look a bit naff actually. was looking at an a2 again after the clio goes. the a4 will be for every other day i think. still need a small diesel for a runaround. found a silver 52 plate 1.4tdi se with 80k on the clock for £6k. will get more off cos i'm staff. what do you think? shao_khan
I think they are great - I would take my time and try to find one with some nice spec options this time around. £6k has got to be a pretty good price tho.
s4_sat
its got climate control, electric front windows and alloys. the spec isn't too much of an issue this time around cos the a4 is pretty much fully loaded. gonna change the stereo and the wheels though.no sunroof either. really good nick for the mileage, only a couple of stonechips and a scuff on the rear wheel. s4_sat
I'm gonna get it for £5.5k and i'm gettin insured for £800 with it. Norwich union were givin me the next cheapest quote at £1450 with a £300 excess.
shao_khan
That NU quote seems a bit steep
s4_sat
it's cos i'm only 21 with no NCB. the most expensive quote was about £2800.
s4_sat
i can get insurance for £800 for anything up to a group 10 until i'm 25 then it's £550 for up to group 18.
shao_khan
I guess - it just seems to me that for a 5.5k car as overkill, I mean with no misshaps, the most expensive quote would mean you had paid for the car again in 2 years time!!!!!
s4_sat
yeah, i'm jus happy that i'm not paying over a grand for this one as well as the a4 innit. i was being quoted that much for the clio when i was 18 so it's kinda went down by a bit now i'm in the trade.
