craigyb
So, need a bigger load lugger and I'm thinking about a Q7. My W12 is worth very little, but I can get another 2 years free motoring out of it with the 5 years plan that is on it. Although I will have to put warranty on it at 3K for 2 years. So what to do, the 3.0 Tdi seems under powered, the 4.2 Tdi seems to be just right and I used to have 2 Toyota Landcruiser 4.2 Tdi's and they were immense. Stay with the W12? Get the Q7? TDiAvant
Well if you need more room then go for the Q7, and the 4.2 TDi is a great engine. The other option is a cheap van and keep the W12
craigyb
I already have a cheap van, but no room to park it until I move house which could be 6 months away.
Chav
I thought the boot of the Q7 was dire considering the size of the car. Wouldn't fit a big doggie comfortably. Plus, its easily the shittest handling car I've ever driven. The brakes (lack of) scared me too. Keep the W12!
Golfer
I have driven the Q7 3.0TDI and it handled like a barge, the 4.2TDI engine will not help it at all, and you will NOT be able to use all the power of the 4.2 in that car either, W12 would be my choice, IF you can stand the fuel consumption. craigyb
Fuel consumption is not really the issue, but I'm buying a new house so I will hold off on the Q7 for now.
shao_khan
We had an Audi UK Q7 for a few days Craig - and the load space - consider the size of the car was dreadfull - if you want more space look elsewhere, I am sure the Tourareg we had was bigger load - it certainly felt it. The VW also has the V10 TDi as well. From the cars of this Ilk I have driven the RR Sport would be my first choice, new V8 TDi is pretty good by all acounts - I havent driven that. Second for me would be a used Cayenne - they lose a lot of value it seems, and if economy isnt an issue it was dynamically more 'fun' than the Q7. hth
Merlot
The poor size of boot suprised me in the Q7. Not a patch on my Disco3 (and no low ratio box too if that's your bag).
shao_khan
This weeks Auto express pitches these against each other with the Q7 scoring very badly in pretty much every off road discipline - even struggled on damp grass!!!!
crasher
Craig We looked at the Q7 when we got rid of Mrs C's A6 Estate, but like others on here were not impressed with the boot space given the emense proportions of the car. The Toe-rag was better; the Cayenne was too much for us to afford. As much as i wanted to go for a Rangey, we opted for the Disco 3 instead. Been very happy with it so far. I still have a desire to opt for the Rangey (especially with the TDV8) but will wait until i can write-down the pick-up before switching
Merlot
The Disco3 is very good, not a TSN car but I like mine. I too was shocked at the small boot on the Q7, anyway the lack of a low ratio box was an issue for me. An A6 Avant is a much better choice.
