OK.. no flaming me now!! FIREdevil.gif

I've had a 2.7 boxter for about a year now.. great car, but a lot of money! Have any of you driven a boxster and an R32, and could give me a view on what they are like in comparison. I know its and odd comparison, 4wd 4seats to a 2seater rear wheel convertible, but I am thinking about changing it. The R32 seems like a lot of car for the money, and not ugly like a subaru.. (sorry subaru fans)

I've driven both, and own an R32. I would rate the R32 over the 2.7 but perhaps not over the 3.2. the boxter is a car that has a much more smooth sounding engine than the golf and has a terific chasis and you can really throw it around and it inspire confidence. I'd say it's more fun to drive but it's for me a summer car and not as versitile as the golf. As an alround car the golf is great, and i personally wanted a four wheel drive vehicle, but car for car in the summer and I'd have the porsche everytime. The 2.7 is still a good car in fact that's the only one I've tried - I had one on loand for several weeks.

Welcome to tyresmoke dude.

During the last year I have had a Boxster S, Boxster 2.7 and R32 - given the choice I would take the golf, my girlfriend would keep the boxster.

For me, I was 'underwhelmed' by the porsche experience, they were good cars, but not as good as I had hoped they would be.

In comparison the golf is better in many respects, but lacks in some, it doesnt have the feel or presence of the boxster, but it does feel a quick even as the 3.2, but doesnt quite have the sound.

I likethe golf because it is bigger and I found the boxster cramped. THe boxsters leather was better quality and it did feel good when pushing hard, but for day to day driving I am glad I nded up with a VW.

Of the two boxsters, I actually prefered the 2.7 with all its toys, my g/f prefered the S.

This was discussed earlier and one guy summed the boxster up very well - It is the balance and steering and feel of the car that makes it so good, but it isnt an out and out racer as it doesnt have the power, but the all round package is good.

As I said above, If I had another I would have a high spec 2.7, but I know many people would disagree with me on this.

As for flaming, I was driving an A2 for a while and for some reason that did get a little stick!!!!! Nah - were here for the cars, dont matter what one as long as you enjoy them.

The porsche is not an outright racer, but it handles better than the R32, relative to its low centre of gravity. I've done things with an B2.7 in mountain roads, I felt I was nearly on a motor bike, which I wouldn't do in the R32 quite the same way or perhaps at all, because it's not always about sheer performance it's also about drivability and the porsche is there at the top of the rung. Furthermore it's as quick as the R32 in a striaght line.

But rather than try to sum up what are quite different cars, with in many respects different uses, I've just bought another R32 fully loaded (most expensive option is full SAT NAV large screen with Digital sound stereo, near £3,000 equiv) This is also the DSG version. At the price I paid for the golf I could have gotten a two year old Boxter S, with and well kited out(perhaps not the sat nav). Am I tempted to do so? No. I know that in summer I'd have a great time whenever I'd take it out, it's a fantastic car to drive and the one I had out on hire did 230kph with the roof off, and that was the 2.7 model. I also really fancy a Boxter and reckon I'll get one one day but not while owning the R32. The reason being is that I like driving the R32 too much, so it would be a real stuggle to decide which car to choose on any day. Plus I have a sun roof on the R32, and while the Boster is a convertible, when it's really hot you don't want to be in an open top car all day. In fact it's nice having the top onpen in the evening, that I find ids the best time. The Boxter is also a much posier car, and that sheer pose apeal some peoople like to be seen. But don't in anyway think you'll be ignored whn you're in a R32. Another thing, is that here in Genevea 5 months of the year we can go skiing and snowboarding, and when I go into the mountatins I have a lot of kit with me, and just couldn't do it with a Boxter, but my golf with 18inch winter tyres is awesome.

If you want a car to pose in the the Boxter's a great choice, if however you want something that's going to take your breath away and is a sort of motorbike of cars, then I'd go for the Vaxhall Vx220, which has been voted best performance car of this year by car magazine. It would do over a porsche, ferrari, you name it, it even beat the GT3. That is super car stuff plus it handles like a go cart. That to my mind this is a car quite different to my R32 and a car I am considered getting for raw fun in the summer in the mountain roads etc - with no specific destination in mind. On that note I'll let you choose your own destination. beerchug.gif

[ QUOTE ]

I have a colleague who's partner works for the UN out in Geneva. He said that there are quite a few R32's out there. Is this true, and did you trade in one for your new car, or do you have three now - & if so, why?

[/ QUOTE ]

I've currently got two R32's but I planning to sell the first one which I got last November, and keeping the DSG, or trade it in for a VX220. I don't own a Boxter but I've had one on hire several times. The R32 I will have left is a company car, so the other car is my own. There are a godd number in Geneva as there are in Switzerland as there were about 1600 cards destined for this market which has a population of 7 Million. There are however, not that many DSGs and not that many with all the options.
