RogerXTP
Hi, Was recommended this site and hope that you guys will be able to help. I'm just about to buy a '98 A8 Sport. Where can i find a list of the original equipment and how can I verify that it's a "Sport" please? I've checked Parkers but they only list from '03 on. Any help would be gratefully received. A Happy Christmas to one and all
cruiser647
Sport models of that age have lovely Recaro electric seats - with front knee pull out bit, also 7 spoke 18" alloys, great 3 spoke steering wheel, lowered suspension to name a few bits. Hope that helps. Which engine are you getting? At that age, the only Quattro's were V8 4.2 engined. Beware!
Figure11
RM120, Welcome to the forum. You won't go much wrong with whatever 8 you buy as long as you make your checks beforehand. For equipment and trim levels the expert is IT_S8 and I'm sure he'll be along soon as Xmas is over. Here's a link with a buyers guide that will help when inspecting a car.... http://www.audipages.com/usedA8/usedA8items.html Mike
PsYcHe
98 A8 Sport will have as previously mentioned all those toys, a concert head unit with 6 disc changer (think it was standard across the range anyway). Should have heated memory seats/wheel (make sure all the adjustments work), rear electrics were an option. Should also be 24/45/18 tyres all round, make sure the tread wear is pretty even. The recaros shockingly enough can't guarantee it's a sport as there was the 'comfort pack' option which put the ordinary seats back in, can't believe that anyone actually took that option though And I'd definitely look for a Quattro option and the 4.2. The smaller engines are OK, and the FWD is usable, but you can't beat the 4.2 with Quattro. Unless you buy an S8 or W12
LostKiwi
It should also be on the V5 so if you look at that it will give you a clue (again not definitive as dealers and DVLA do make mistakes)... You could also get all the options codes and check them too - there are linkys somewhere on the site that tell you what is what... Linky
SneakyMcC
Ah, you found us! You are R****XTP on the other site, aren't you? Welcome to TSN. You'll find all you need on here This is the non-Sport interior (cant find a Sport at the mo). This steering wheel does not have the Sport badge (red/silver) and the seats have narrow leather panels running front-to-back direction of the car. The sport has larger rectangular panels going across tha car, with bolstered sides.... These are non-sport wheels too.
RogerXTP
Sneaky, You rumbled me! Don't want to do the other site down but the only reply I had there directed me here! All - I hope to do the deal on 28th in time for the new year. It's deffo a 4.2 Q ( seen the V5) with the recaros, tidy alloys and the 3-spoke wheel. I emailed Audi asking for help with a '98 brochure but no luck so far. What sort of mpg are you guys getting please? Not that it matters hugely (I've promised myself an 8 come what may) but it'd give me a ballpark. Thanks a mill so far. I'll be on here lots from now on. SneakyMcC
I have a 3.7 Sport. It seem not to matter what engine size, I think its more to do with where you drive. We trundle around town (Tescos and back) and get 13-17mpg. On a spirited run you'll easily double that, at 50mph we'll get around nearly 40mpg, but who drives at 50! Get a 4.2 and be happy! LostKiwi
Over the summer my 4.2QS manages 26-28mpg regularly on a run (cruising at a bit more than I should!) but can give 30+ driven gently and slowly (yeah right!).... In winter it seems to use a bit more (as expected) and drops to 23-25mpg. Note that some 80-90% of my driving is motorway though. Round town is scary so I tend to use my old 3.9 Range Rover (with LPG) instead!
