[/ QUOTE ] $118,000 is roughly £60k, so isn't that more like 75% of the UK price (circa £75k-£80k before options)?? Sidicks

So far every one I've heard of has sold for nearer 95k-105k... near enough double.... Ok... spec is probably different but even so....
sidicks
Well the $118,000 is presumably the US list price, so it makes sense to compare that to the UK list price. Because of the poor spec in the UK most people are adding about £10k worth of options, hence the purchase price tends to be in the £90k region. Having spoken to a few people (and turned down my chance of having an early R8), I think there are cars around at much closer to list, and anyone who ends up paying any sort of premium will lose a fortune over 2 years. Merlot
You are quite right mate. People who talk of premiums are looking at the sticker price at a specialist dealer vs the £75k original list price. I cancelled mine because I would not pay £85-87k for a two seater. At least with a 911 the kids can come too. Small premiums were around for the first few months (£5-7k) but this car will invert over two years as you say as the hot money moves on and the real buyers move onto the V10. I'm reckoning that a two year old V8 version will be £60k in 18 months time.
LostKiwi
Even a 25% premium for buying in the UK is silly, especially since I'd guess they are made in Germany and shipped to the US so incur higher shipping costs than a UK car. Just annoying there is such a difference.

sidicks
Anyone know what the warranty is for Audi in the US? I'm pretty sure Porsche offer a 4-year warranty in the US compared with 2 years in the UK. Sidicks

UK price was £200 or so (plus having to go get it)... I bought one in the US and had it shipped over - cost all in delivered to door...? £105. Thing is it was even the genuine Volvo part in the Volvo box with all the Volvo part numbers. Sent an email to Volvo asking why the UK one was so much dearer given the part was made in Germany anyway and that it made no sense I could buy it via the US cheaper than from the UK, given the part made 2 transatlantic trips. Their reply? Volvo USA as a larger market could negotiate better discounts on parts than Volvo UK....What a pile of Anyone who says Rip-Off Britain doesn't exist is deluded..... charlie61
I've just come back from the US, almost everything is 1/2 the price it is here, levi 501s £18, all the clothes were so cheap it was ridiculous, I walked into one shop where everything in the store was $8.99 including shoes, coats, jeans, admittedly it was all their own brand but the quality was Ok a garage was advertising 2008 Toyota Camry's on TV for $17999, I don't know if this is a get you in the door price then it doubles when you add on all the extras but 9k for a new Camry sounds very cheap
PaulW
As compared to the rest of the world (or at least Europe), the US is very cheap. Went to Buenos Aires Argentina last September for holiday, I got $3.13 pesos to every U.S. Dollar....and things there were the same price as the U.S., but just in pesos! It was extremely cheap once I got there.
IT_S8
Wow, this thread moved fast :-) We've not ruled out R8, or Q7 for that matter in our game plan, but it has the same problem as the D3 at present - It's not in true enthusiast teritory, and the cars are too pricey to source....... We're going to move up a gear this year, its the 2nd of Jan and we've already bought a new break this year, with 2 left over from December that are fresh... This year we're going to enhance and develop based on the sucess and support of 2007 with more cars, more parts and far more information wherever we can provide it. We've done as well on retrofit parts as we have on replacement parts, so more info on how to get the toys you're missing will be forthcoming. We're looking forward to it, but for now, the R8 is going to be a distant goal. But a goal nonetheless :-) Happy 2008....
