stooH
I had to put the child lock on my rear passenger side door the other day and put my key in to turn it and the black 'button' you put the key into popped inside the door! So now I have a hole about the size of a 2p coin in the door. I need to take it into the dealers to have a look but I was after opinions: a) will it be a big job to fix as I guess they'll have to take off the door panel to retrieve b) is it likely to be a warranty job? I know that I caused it but it was hardly like I went at it with a hammer. I stuck the key in and in it popped. Other cars I've been in have had nice little switches or something proper built into the door, why the flimsy piece of plastic?!
davyk31
Absolutely insist on it being covered under warranty. The item should be fit for the purpose of continually switching on and off so if it falls into the door on first usage it must be faulty.
stooH
Update: I'm a tw@t! It appears that what I presumed was the child lock is in fact not. It's a rubber bung which happens to have a picture of a lock on it. The child lock is actually on the inside edge of the door and is a nice sturdy bit that you put the key into. Which begs the question, what is the rubber bung with a lock on it for and is there any issue with me leaving it with the bung inside the door? Snoopy
No idea, but cannot see an issue leaving it in the door.
TwoSheds
The 'bung' with the key symbol is removed from its seating, so you can lock the car manually with the key, if ever the central locking system fails.
stooH
So i've just 'removed' it in preparation for any future problems right...
