considering hid conversion kits

hi all, i have been looking around the net for a good xenon kit. what do you think about the hid conversion kits on this site ? thanks in advance

First things first.

I take it from your username (Bora) that you're in the UK. Well, the site you're looking at is a US site so that may influence your choice. They might look cheap but Customs might make it a little less cheap when they arrive in this country. There'll be VAT to pay and probably Import Duty aswell.

Second, your Bora has H4 headlight bulbs. This is a single bulb that has 2 filaments doing both dip beam and main beam. Golfs on the other hand have 2 bulbs, one for dip which remains on all the time and one for main beam which supplements it when required. For your headlights to work correctly you need either a VWxenon headlight (uses the foglight location for dipped xenon) or a "shifting" bulb which flicks back and forward to do both beams when you flick the switch. Be careful ordering a kit that costs the same for an H4 fitment as an H7, as you might end up with a kit that just gives you dip beam. There are suppliers in this country that sell these kits.

I got mine from the US and the duty is roughly £25 IF they catch you!

As Rusty said, you need H4 BI-Xenon, otherwise you'll end up with just dipped beam and no main beam = MOT failure!

I believe no headlight washers or self levelling should also be an MOT failure - there was a discussion in general cars recently

I was under that vague impression too, but mine's passed 2 MOT's at 2 different garages. Was there something about the headlight washers/levelling rule only being applicable to OEM/factory fit?

yep... U R right... MOT fail if you dont have these.... this applies in ALL countries..
