[Audi A3/S3] Remote central locking problems

I have an A3 2.0T which is just over a year old, and about 50% of the time, the car will not unlock or lock on the button on the key fob. If I manually use the key in the lock, the buttons work immediately afterwards.

It's been like that for ages and happens anywhere I go, not just in certain areas.

Audi took a look at it and said it might have picked up a 3rd key? They apparently checked for faults and recoded both keys to the car.

I got home tonight and straight again I had the same problem.

Has anybody else experienced this problem? The bloke at the garage said they had a few other owners who lived near mobile phone masts and thought that might be causing it. Funnily enough, there is a phone mast within about 500m of my house.

Just wondering if anything had any thoughts? Thanks!

500m is a long way - the signal from the phone mast will be pretty attenuated at that distance - the signal from your own mobile will be several thousand times stronger!

But try this test - do the remote buttons work OK at another location e.g. work, supermarket car park,...?

If the problem is only at home , then it sounds like an EMC problem from the nearby phone mast.

If the problem exists everywhere, then it's a car problem.

Thanks for the reply Dave.

That's the thing, the problem happens wherever I go, not just at home. To be honest, the mast is probably quite a bit closer than 500m. I've heard of things (masts, alarms) interfering with cars but the problem exists all over the place.

Maybe it is the car. I'll go back to the garage and ask them to investigate further.

Cheers,

Russ.
