davyk31
OK there has been some chat on here including a question I posed about the adjustment knob on top of the HD lance. It is marked + in one direction and - in the other. When I went towards the - sign the foam seemed thicker which seemed illogical. I emailed Autobrite and got the response below..... Ok - means more air thicker foam and + means less air thinner foam,, hope this makes sense?? So does that mean go furthest to the negative sign to get the thickest most clingy foam? MajorH
Mines in England but IIRC - gave me more foam, you would have thought they would have sorted the symbols on the knob to read logically as its a foam lance + should mean more
wyliss
Thanks for posting that, I've always used '+' thinking I was getting thicker foam.
ahaydock
Hi there, after have a quick look at mine it is set to - and I get a thick foam. Also some guys on DW say the same thing but I agree it does seem illogical!
drpellypo
the + and - signify water rate. So + equals more water, - equals less. The less water you mix in, the thicker the foam. Or something like that!
bpsmith
I thought it was relating to the air ratio so was using + as thought it would provide better foam with more air!?! Will give it a blast on full - on next use and see what happens. I also emailed a barrage of questions to AutoBrite, that I had seen asked on the forusm, so that we could put this to rest as it seems quite a few of us are very happy with the results we get but are doing totally different mixes and knob settings! lol

[/ QUOTE ] I apply on a dry car as I find the foam clings better, but I believe the bottle tells you to apply to a wet car. I would suggest you try both and see what you prefer. This is what I got when applying on a dry car:
dazr32
i will try it both ways like you siad, are the results as good as the pics are suggesting both on here and d/w?
alera
Foam lances certainly seem to be the flavour of the month at the moment !

[/ QUOTE ] I would say so. I soaked then PW off and the amount of dirt it shifted was excellent. I still needed to wash it but it was so much easier. Here are some before, during and after pics on another car: Before: Just SSF: Dwelled for about 8 mins (poor light I'm afraid but you get the picture) the rinsed:
alera
Anything that gets more muck off the car before you have to touch it is very good news....
davyk31
The lances are as good as the pictures suggest in most cases, its all about getting the mix of water and snow foam right and then the mix according to the knob on top. It def does remove a lot of grime from the car but I cannot see it ever being good enoght to just spray it on and powerwash off without any contact. bpsmith
I dont know about that tbh. If you have a well detailed car that is Sealed and/or Waxed with multiple coats then i would imagine that, during the Summer, you could get away with regular Snow Foams alone and not need to touch the surface? Never tried this mind you but might well do once I get around to the Spring Detail!
alera
For me its just about getting a better finish. I will foam, leave for 10 minutes, then jet wash then foam again, them clean with my normal 2 x bucket and lambs mit approach. I am just hoping this will do a better job of shifting the bad dirt you get around the sills, wheel etc....

bpsmith
I have had a reply from AutoBrite asking some of the questions raised here and this is roughly what they said: Fan adjustment alters the spray pattern. The wider the spray the better the coverage of the car. Black Knob is for adjusting the amount of foam produced. They did not clarify which way was best and for what reason but believe that is covered above anyway. Therefore - for more air and so better foam it seems. AB's Super Snow Foam is 100:1 dilution ratio and need about an inch to two inches of product in 1 litre bottle and top up with Warm Water. You can mix Shampoo with their SSF but some will affect the foaming qualities! Meg's HW or SP works very well but they advise their MPC as has great cleaning abilities with the SSF. Strange that!?! Their SSF does not strip the LSP. This final bit is something I did not think about but is very important for comparisons between lots of us. The more flow, Litres per Minute, you get from your Pressure Washer the better foam you will get! A Kranzle pumping out 10.5 litres per minute will give awesome results whilst a small Karcher home jobbie will pump out less foam but still pretty good. Hope that helps guys?
