amstrange1
Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum - stumbled across it whilst looking for car info. Are there many Polo owners on this site? I can normally be found on www.porka.net, and on the Club G40 and Club Polo Yahoo E-groups, but it's nice to have another forum to visit! Quick bit about me car - it's a '92 VW Polo CL, the 'squareback' van shaped style. Not much special until I dropped a Polo G40 engine in over the summer, it rolling roaded at about 130bhp a month or so ago - which is plenty for a car weighing around 800kg. More engine tweaks are on their way, hoping for the right side of 150bhp after a bit of supercharger fettling and some other meddling.
shao_khan
hey dude - welcome to Tyresmoke. Mate of mine had a G40 for a while - loved it, fantastic little car, so if you got that engine in the square back that must be great fun.

amstrange1
[ QUOTE ] if you got that engine in the square back that must be great fun. [/ QUOTE ] It is indeed, bit of a street sleeper, love the faces of Mk4 Golf GTI drivers when they get overtaken by a mere Polo CL! Just wish I could get better traction, have to be so careful in the wet - otherwise it wheelspins terribly in first and second.
shao_khan
you arent going to improve the traction much, i noticed a couple of years back the Lupo withthe VR6 lump in it suffered on the strip because it just coldnt get the power down. SO to improve power further do you need to just change pullies and stuff on the charger or is it more than that?
amstrange1
Current plans are: Smaller 'charger pulleys, different air intake system (remove boost return from 'charger and run two cone filters), toothed 'charger belts to stop slippage and a bit of 'charger gas flowing by the boys at www.pitstopdevelopments.com. Oh, and a Polo GT inlet manifold and removing the wedges from the throttle butterflies. Fitting aquamist water injection, flowed head, bigger intercooler, flowed throttle body are all good mods too - but ones out of my price range at the moment. For traction I'd love an LSD, but they're silly prices so will just have to control my right foot a bit more! That and new suspension, and better tyre size and make choice will help. Ritey
Sounds like i won't be challenging you to a drag! There was me thinking I had a quick Polo mind you I'm 20 and as per usual I've been stung on insurance for my polo gti, what's ur's like with a supercharger??? -- slightly modified from the usual cl
amstrange1
Tell me about insurance, I've only just turned 21! The G40 engine is such an improvement over the 55bhp CL lump. I'd messed with that engine too, got it up to 75-odd bhp (rolling road proven) by fitting a Polo GT injection system and cone filter, but lacked torque and just wasn't enough. As G40's go mine's pretty slow as it's relatively standard still. The guy I bought the scrap G40 off (I did an engine transplant in case that wasn't obvious!) had got caught doing 130mph in it, so the car's no slouch!
