Oh, I'm flavour of the month. T'other half gets her hair done today, and on the return trip we drive through a tunnel. So what do I do? Go to open the sunroof, so I can hear the dulcet tones of my zorst laugh.gifFIREdevil.gif

Anyhoo, the bloody thing's stuck now, and will only travel about 2 inches back and forth, and won't close.

Any ideas as to how I take the switch apart, as I'd like to give that a clean to see if that's the issue smile.gif

Followed the manual, but the process is slightly different on the facelift model. You have to remove the whole of the light enclosure (not retained by screws). Once you've done this the little crank should be there for you to use. Mine wasn't (some fekr.gif must have lost it when installing the car kit before I bought the car the_finger.gif) but thanks to some deft purchasing from Ikea, I had the perfect replacement to hand.

So, sunroof is now closed, and I've had the switch out which I gave a quick clean, and it seems ok. However, is it easy to test the motor? How does the whole system work? Is it likely that I'll need either a new switch, or a new motor?

IT_S8, guess I'll be giving you a shout this week 169144-ok.gif

I fitted a new switch to mine recently as it sometimes had a mind of its own!!!

I also took the motor out and cleaned all the contacts on that to, while i had it apart, seems to have been fine since...

I think the new switch was around £50...

NOTE....if you take the motor out, you must line up the small marks you can see thru the plastic window in the motor before you reinstall it.....if you take it out, do it with the roof closed.....

Sold my A8 today to a nice couple quite local to me, hope they enjoy the car as much as i did, and i hope shes as reliable as she was for me.......nearly had a tear in my eye as she drove up the road nice and shiny...... frown.gif

On to pastures new.....will more than likely be back in A8 ownership one day when i get a D3 at a bargain price.. 169144-ok.gif

Will stay around here tho, nice to still post now and then and read all the issues.....

to get my sunroof to close fully i need to have the switch one click to the right(if you were sat in the drivers seat)

Also when you hold the button down on key the windows go up and the sunroof closes but not fully it leaves a small gap, which is where you would expect the sunroof to be with one click to the right....

any ideas?

sorry about the thread-jack

Sounds like its out of sink, to reset it, you have to wind it to the fully closed "normal" position manually, then get access to the motor in the roof, on the motor is a little viewing window, the gear in the motor has a small ident mark on it, kind of like a timing mark and it must be aligned with the small notch / mark you can see when the roof is fully closed. If it is not, then its out of sink....

to reset the zero position, close it manually with the winding tool, gain access to the roof motor, then disconnect the electrical connections, remove sunroof motor (3 torx bolts), then reconnect the wires with the motor out, use the switch to the fully closed position, the motor "should" run and cut out automatically , and the marks should now be aligned, if they are, then refit motor as it is and test the roof operation..
