N3WOB
Was looking at an 08 model today and noticed how much bigger the rear disks are than the mark IV. Is the braking noticeably better in the mark V?
mlhj83
I haven't driven a Mk4 properly but from my experience both on and off the track, the Mk5 brakes are astonishing for OEM brakes. I have never experienced brake fade even after 4-5 hours of continuous driving on steep mountain roads and 15 continuous laps at brands hatch. However, I have had to change the disc and pads at 37k miles as the discs had become warped. Changing the brake fluid to ATE Super Blue Fuild helps pedal feel significantly and reduces sponginess felt after prolonged hard use of the brakes. Mook
Yes, Ross - you can brake harder in the Mk5. It pulls up about 10 metres quicker than the Mk4 from 70-0 mlhj83 - you're not trying hard enough if your OEM brakes haven't faded after 15 laps of Brands
