ljb32
Hey guys, for the past 1000 miles my A3 3.2 v6 has got some squeeky brakes. I recently got some new pads and disks fitted but they stil squeek! Someone has recommended putting a small amount of Copperslip on the back of the brakes. Can anyone confirm if this is a good idea? If not any other ideas? O yea, then only seem to make a noise when slowing down from about 15MPH
burble
Copperslip on the back of the pad is something I always do when changing pads.
Decked
I wouldn't know about sticking Copperslip on there, I've never done it.... When mine squeak I take it out for a spirited drive and brake hard 3 to 4 times from 60-70 and it's always got rid of it. Occasionally a jet wash pressure washer will sort it out too. What pads are you running?
ljb32
Standard pads for the car, nothing special. Will try the hard breaking then will try the jet wash. If all fails will try the copperslip. Its jsut sounds really bad, someone said its the pads vibrating hance why the coperslip is a good idea! Im no mechanic so any info helps! burble
A bit of copperslip spread thinly over the back of the pad should help. I've never not put some on and I find it surprising that whoever changed your pads and discs didn't do the same.
mb
I haven't changed the pads on the R32 so this is just generic advice but I would always but copperslip on the back of any pads I change, also on any of the sliding mechanism + remove any accumulated rubbish first. There should also be some "anti-squeal" shims (bent up bits of metal) which sometimes/often get forgotten or left on the back of the old pads when the new ones are installed. ljb32
The guy who changed them is a VW/Audi mechanic and he said that they never put copperslip on the back of any brakes! Cheers for your help guys! Sure something there will dot he trick! Also I have not done any engine mods so far, what it the cheapest and most effect change to make the 3.2 v6 a little sharper?!!? :-)
burble
Never? I guess I'll have to check the pads on the .:R then.
petsy
sounds like your pads may be glazed in which case a spirited drive braking firmly from around 70mph to 10mph a few time without bring the car to a stop. after that stop the car and let the brakes cool down completely. RedRobin
....But best not to put on the handbrake when you stop after you've put any serious heat into the discs. To avoid possible warping. "I was de-glazing my brakes, Officer"
ljb32
The de-glazing seemed to dop the trick! Put some almighty heavy breaking down and now all seems good!! nice one chaps! (and still no copperslip) :-)
