ant
I had to take my rear seats out to run some cabling through the car. The rear seat base has a cable attached to the underside which has two connectors(one on each side). To get the seat base out you have to disconnect them. I noticed that the dash airbag light came on after i had disconnected the connectors. This was a few days ago, today i reconnected the connectors and re installed the rear seats all went well until i realised that the dash light is still lit.......... any ideas people? JonK_UK
Try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes, then re-connect and see if the light goes out. Make sure you have a radio code if your car has one though!
Duffy3074
Yep I had this when my drivers seat was out to get the lumbar control valve replaced, the airbag ECU registered the fact that this had happened and logged it as a fault thereby causing the light to come on next time the car was taken out. There must be some sort of continuity check even when the ignition is off.
IT_S8
Yup. Its a Vagcom reset job. Disconnecting the battery shouldn't reset it, although it would have prevented the problem if it were disconnected during the operation Just clear the fault codes under the airbag controller and the light will go out. The wires in question are for the rear seat occupancy sensors in the seat base as your car must have rear side airbags in the seat back. The idea is the same principal as the front passenger seat - If there is no one sat in the seat, then theres no point blowing up a perfectly good airbag in an accident, hence the sensors. You may have a second set of occupancy sensors in the rear seat (mechanical rather than the airbag presure pad) - These are to detect occupancy for heated reat seats. Unlike the front seats that heat regardless, the rear ones will only heat up if someone is sat in it....
NickGUK
Strange you need vag com for this, i had the rears out of my car to run some cables, yes the light came on, but went off again as soon as the connectors were re-connected Worth checking they are connected properly ? ChrisGoulding
It is definately a VAG-COM job. I pulled the airbag fuse out in error and the light came on. Replacing the fuse didnt work and it had to be reset at a local garge. I have now bought a cheapo VAG-COM cable to do simple resets. Well worth investing in to prevent hours of head scratching. NickGUK
Well, i never needed vag com. I did have the battery connected / disconnected during my cable fit, and the rear seats were out on the drive....... cant explain it tbh...... PsYcHe
Once the airbag light gets tripped, only a VAG-COM can reset it (or so I was told), hence my purchase of a cheapy VAG Cable.
ant
where from, ebay?
PsYcHe
That's where I got mine anyway, and there's an old version of VAG-COM on the website you can download that works in a reduced functionality mode that will allow you to reset the errors. PsYcHe
It works with the D2 models, but not the D3 (new style) due to the diagnostic system being different.
