cd autochanger woes

My 2002 S8 has the standard 6 disc autochanger in the boot with the BOSE speaker upgrade, I keep getting problems with it not recognising CDs at all especially in slot 6. Sometimes I will put the magazine in and it will Say NO CD in all six slots, Am also getting somes discs giving me an ERROR which does not have a number with it to reference to the handbook, and can only be rectified by stopping car removing magazine and replacing it, most annoying, which usually cures problem. Having been invovled in ICE some years ago I never was a fan of this type of CD changer, Anyone any ideas???

I found I had problems with mine. I bought a cheap cleaning CD, didn't make much difference so I dug up my old cleaning CD that has 2 brushes on instead of 1, put some alcohol on the softer brush and inserted into slot 1. Played it, did the cleaning ritual then put it in slot 6 and repeated the process. Plays spot on now.

It's partially rectified my SATNAV fault too (not reading the CD-ROM). Much more success now that it's been cleaned.

I think the arms which hold the laser can get a bit sticky. The older VAG CD changers were really crap, I had a 2 year-old changer which was really sticky and jumpy a while back.

I think there's a procedure on audipages.com for lubricating the laser mount arms. If it's not there, a google search might find it.
