Oli18
Hi, Just wanted to show off what my mate and I achieved on the weekend. Just a bit of background... My car is a Audi A8 with 163k miles on the clock. I've owned it for 10 months and when i got it, it had extremely heavy swirls in the paintwork. After reading a lot about it all, my mate and i split the costs on getting all the products including the Megs G220. After many weekends of poor weather, yesterday was the day we decided to get to work. It also just so happen to be after i drove to Holland and back so the 8 was in extra need of some lovin' Products used were Megs APC Snowfoam CG citrus shampoo Sonus green clay Menz 3.02 Menz 1.06 Car Lack Collinite 476 Megs Endurance Tyre gel Megs trim detailer AG glass cleaner This was our first time doing this and it took a full 2 days and we didn't even touch the interior. The hardness of the Audi paint is astonishing and it took multiple passes before the swirls came out....but they are out now and it looks amazing! The area i'm most pleased with is the front bumper which really showed its colour after the work. Here are some of the pics of the process. Many thanks for reading! -Oli And so the cleaning began....with some snowfoam! After having fully clayed the car (no pics unfortunately - i forgot) we started machine polishing using the G220 - A great tool and very user friendly. It was however not without a few learnings along the way... taking a polisher past an aerial will literally rip the pad to shreds...but we quickly resumed without delay. After having gone over the paint twice and using the 3.02 due to the harshness of the Audi paint, this is what we ended the day with!

Oli18
Hi Spikeyboy, The last picture was actually the picture that is attached to all my posts and is a little dated! Now that i've got a shiney motor, i'll get them updated soon! [ QUOTE ] Nice Job Oli Nothing better than a shiny A8 Now you will cry when it rains etc........ spikeyboy
My bad - sorry - i feel like cralling in a hole now. Did you use any guides etc to give you an idea how to do the job ?
Oli18
We naturally have been reading the forums quite a bit (TSN and detailingworld) and i also bought a DVD a little while back. It was a bit of a product promotion video for Megs but still very good as it used the G220 and showed the technique ... well worth it!
ahaydock
Top job there - how did you find the G220 on the VAG paint?
Oli18
Hi ahaydock, My mate and I both found the G220 easy to work with. This was our first time using an orbital polisher. I've heard and read that the PC can cause cramp due to the vibration when used for longer periods. The G220 was easy and comfortable to use even after 2 days. The speed settings are easy enough to work out and the overall balance of the machine makes it easy to manouvre. The material from which it's made is a hard durable plastic but it has a slight rubber feel to it which makes for easy gripping. Setting it up is a piece of cake (you just screw the back plate on and tighten the nut). As for the VAG paint - it's hard as a rock. My gf's Pug 306 definitely would be a lot softer/thinner/easier i think. It required two passes and they were very thorough passes too to make sure the product fully worked its magic. If you get it right, it looks pretty damn good though - we got the metallic sparkle back that was hidden underneath (you can actually see the little sparkles now if you look closely) which was great. -Oli
bencole45
Good effort and a lovely car. Get a private plate on it IMHO because it doesn't look dated for an 8 or 9 yr old car.
steelwind101
Nice work guys! Amazing what those buffers can do on wing mirrors! That blue has come out superb, the silver trim really kicks it off! Geoff
