Brisel
Help! I have my final pre-IAM test observed run on Sunday & my R is playing up. It started fine when I went to pick up my observer this afternoon but when I went to restart it after picking the guy up, the solenoid & starter wouldn't work. It's not the immobiliser & there are no faults displayed on the dash. The ignition works fine & bump starting it works fine. When I turn the key to start it, nothing happens. No drop in voltage. The car worked fine yesterday so the battery can't be flat & the terminals are all tight. Living on the Fens means I'm a bit short of hills to roll down & it is too hard to push fast enough on my own on the flat. TIA
petsy
well I don't know what the problem is here but you should not bump start a car with a cat as it can kill the cat.
Brisel
Eh? The ignition works fine & it took less turns of the engine to start by bump than it would by cranking it over normally. So less unburnt fuel would make its way through to the cat. How would that damage it? The problem is just in the starter circuit somewhere. Brisel
Problem sorted. Broken wire to the starter motor was fixed by the dealer in 1/2 hour. Top marks to Brammall & Jones VW in Boston
