JonK_UK
Is this fitted as standard to all early A8s ('96) models? I only have a button to disable the alarm interior sensor on the door pillar and apparantly no remote release for the boot....
PsYcHe
If you don't have one, then I'd say not Ian might know better, but I think they were all in the same place if you had them. Does your key have a boot release button? My 98 has one and a boot release on the pillar.
JonK_UK
Single button key fob only with a lousy range. Got to be literally as close to the car as you can get before it reacts. Old technology I guess...
LostKiwi
My 95 has no boot release and no alarm sensor disable switch either (apparently you cover one of the ultrasonic sensors for 10 seconds before locking it or something - but then its got a third party Scorpion alarm so thats probably b0ll0cks anyway now!). IT_S8
Early ones didnt have the boot release, or alarm sensor as per LostKiwis 95 model. By 1997, you should have both in the drivers B pillar right through to 2003, although on the facelift, the finish on the buttons changed slightly if you want to go for 100% accuracy Note also on the early ones, there was no remote central locking. Infra red locking was an option, and only seemed to be fitted to about 1/3 of cars that we've seen... Once again, 1997 saw everyone get radiowave central locking, initially with a fixed key with three buttons, and by the end of 1997 the familiar swing out blade was here... IT_S8
Born on, or first registered.... Thats quite interesting, we're always working to fine tune what happened on exactly what date..
Ska
first registered - my car seems to be a tricky one when getting hold of parts. Not even the stealers can tell me over the phone if I have solid or liquid gasket for my sump, until they've had a look
Malairt
Mine was registered on 31/12/1997 but has the flick out key thingy. Regrettably I've only got one key so I'm paranoid about leaving it in the car in case it self locks. Why does it do that?
Duffy3074
It does that as a security thing, it only does it if you unlock the car and then don't open a door within a certain time. It's in case you accidentally hit the unlock button and don't realise that you have. It saves you ending up with an unlocked car without realising it. Unless you've got a fault you can't lock the keys in the car this way.
