AndrewGray
Hi, I am just new to the forum and I am the new owner of Dan's '95 A8 Quattro that I'm sure some of you know quite well. The cruise control stalk is tempermental and only works now and then. I found a swap procedure on Audi Pages and I was wondering if anyone knew what type stalk my A8 will have. Will it be the "N" revision, "C" revision or neither? Here is the walk-through I am referring to: http://www.audipages.com/Tech_Articles/electrical_equipment/cruiseswitchreplace.html Thanks Andrew
EddyH
I've read previously on here that you usually just have to switch it on and off quite a few times to clean the contacts, I'd recommend trying that first.

AndrewGray
I've read previously on here that you usually just have to switch it on and off quite a few times to clean the contacts, I'd recommend trying that first. I'll give that a try next time I am out in the car, thanks. What is the proper procedure for using the cruise control? Switch it from the off position to on and then press the set button and it should kick in? If it works temperamentally, then you're doing better than me, never worked when I had it! I've had it working twice, but no matter how hard I try I cant get it to work again. Hopefully the two times that i've had it working is proof that the vacuum pump and pipework are all intact and it is all mechanically sound except for the stalk. Dave from A8parts.com has told me it is common for the contacts inside the stalk to wear away and I am hopefully getting a replacement stalk soon
EddyH
I always leave mine in the on position, ready for use. Don't see any need to switch it completely off.
sloss
My Cruise Control never properly worked. If you held the stalk towards the dash then it would all work but of course that's no use when using the lights. So I decided to replace the Stalk. Just called the Stealer, gave the car Reg and he ordered it up. About £100 I think. There were differences in the removal/replace procedure as the screws were a lot different and in different places. Still an easy job though. I was going to take the old one to pieces to find the fault but chucked it out in a garage clean up! Never been anywhere to really need it since.......
