thats shocking!! How long will that last you?

About 400 Miles, or a week and a half.

I filled up at the start of the day when the mpg was at its worst on the trip computer, so at the time, the car was showing a range of 255 Miles on a full tank.

Time to start thinking about an LPG conversion methinks.

Thats even more shocking!! You need to get a diesel ffs!!!! You'd be saving serious money on your fuel costs...

True, but looking at the Audi Used car website, equivalent spec 4.2 Diesels are being advertised at more than £10k over what I paid for my FSI.

Oil burner car costs are going up and up as they know everyone wants one - but the refinery's can't produce enough!! I wouldn't be sure of the cost saving to be honest since Diesel is 10p more expensive everywhere, and reported to be £1.50 by sept! - I have never filled my car up to the brim to be honest, but am assuming a 4.2 model has a bigger tank as I am not sure I can get that much in mine!? Or maybe I have just never filled it. My company pays all fuel - but it is making it prohibitive to just go out and drive these days for sure! HATE this countrys fule costs!

Mine's a D3 which has a 90 Litre tank.

Could get a smaller car.......

I don't want a smaller car. :P

This thread has pretty much convinced me to go for an LPG conversion.

OK so these sums are simplistic but:

1) Bought a nearly new A8 4.2FSI approx 50% off list and 7-10K less than an equivalent Diesel model.

2) Now spend 2K on an LPG conversion

3) After 15K Miles the savings on the fuel effectively pay for the conversion

4) Thereafter, you get an equivalent of 40mpg+

Main drawbacks for me are the loss of space from the boot, and the siting of the LPG filler point.

Hmmmm

Just did a quick quote on greenfuels site (www.greenfuel.org.uk) based on 15k miles per year and a 4.2 Quattro Sport - 2000 model (not sure what yours actually is) and that returned a estimated saving in excess of £1800 per annum - extrapilate that out and its not long until LPG pays for itself! - it is the way forward to keep your guzzler on the road. Thats duel fuel aswell, so you get decent range, and you can get a fair size tank in an A8 boot without too much compromise, depends if you pack the entire family luggage in there on a regular basis as lets face it , its not cramped! Performance is pretty well the same and you get to drive about in London probably exempt of congestion charge, depending on overall emissions

But has anyone put LPG on an FSi yet? I've been looking around Google on and off since I got my 4.2 in January, but I've not found anybodywho's done it yet, but I've not looked too hard either.

On the boot space issue, only being able to carry four dead bodies instead of six is not an issue ;)

I hadn't considered that.

I've just had a quick look round the net and have found a company in germany that have recently launched lpg conversions for the 2.0 FSI and 1.4TFSI and have the V6 FSI system under development.

Can't find anyone that does one for the 4.2 though.

Hmmmm

On my 2003 D3 4.2L the LPG filler is hidden behind the filler cap next to the petrol filler. Its a bit of a tight fit but has not caused any problems.
