Are 8P A3 and B6/B7 A4 wheels interchangeable?

Our 8P A3 Special Edition has what are quite possibly the dullest wheels that Audi make. They're 16" 9 spoke wheels that might as well be plastic hubcaps :flush:.

Now ever since I had a B6 Avant with the 17" 5 spoke 'Star' alloys (free upgrade with the 'sport' spec back in '03!!) I've really liked them, and think they suit the A3 very well too. They're also easy to clean :D There are always a few sets for sale on Ebay, but many are from the A4 not the A3.

Will A4 wheels fit an A3?

Thanks

Peter

Yes, is the short answer. But it would be wise to check the offset of the wheels to try and stay close to what you are currently running. The offset number is usually written as ET35 or similar. I think A4's are usually around ET45, I don't know what your current A3 wheels are but you'd be best to stick to roughly what it is at present or at least within a 2-3 ET (millimetres). A smaller offset will stick out more, so you'll probably be ok with a smaller offset within reason. A bigger offset will stick out less, which could cause fouling of suspension or steering arms etc.

A3's of 8P chassis normally run around ET51+ whereas A3's have an offset of around ET38-ET44

If you fit A4 wheels, you need to be sure of the following;

1) That you only fit 18's - as you can't fit any lower than ET44 to an A3 without rubbing

2) That you don't keep A4 sized tyres on the wheels, as again you will get rubbing.
