Scott USA Octane Mountain Bike

This is sort of a "for sale" post, but also a bit of an asking for advice post :) I am selling a mountain bike that I have had for about 6 years but has really had minimal use for the last 5 years. Its surplus to requirements as I only really use my XC bike so this might as well be sold. Now I have been out of the mountain biking scene for quite a while so I have very little idea of what my bike is worth (even though I remember it costing alot roughly 6 years ago!). I thought I would ask here as I have spotted a few mountain bike topics recently with people who seem to have a pretty good knowledge :)

So my questions are (if anyone is kind enough to offer any advice):

1. How much do you think it is worth?

2. Where would be best to sell it? (any forums, or is ebay best?)

3. Does anyone here want to buy it? :D

Here are the specs and (lots!) of pics

Scott USA Octane hardtail frame

Marzocchi bomber 2002

Tioga Factory DH 2.10 Tyres

Halo Combat Rims + Diatech disc brake hubs (very strong wheels)

DMR Chain Guide

FSA V Drive Xtreme Cranks

Shimano Deore rear mech

Hope (Mini?) front disc brake

Shimano Deore XT shifter

Yeti grips

Shimano Deore XT rear disc brake

DMR saddle (quick release)

First question is what did it cost you (without any extras) - it's then a lot easier to make a call on what it might be worth now. MTBs have come a massively long way in the last 6 years! Unfortunately, extras on bikes are a bit like extras on cars - they don't add to the value, but they make it easier to sell.

Also, what size frame is it and how much does it weigh? I've got a a friend who wants to get back into biking with us at weekends and he may be interested.

Well I didn't buy it as a whole bike. I had accumulated a stack of bits from upgrading other bikes, which meant I just bought the frame and built it from there, and I cant even remember what I paid for that. Its probably not 6 years since I got it, more like 4 but I do understand that it has still moved on quite alot over the last 4 years. I dont even know what style of riding this would be used for now. I used to use it for a bit of downhilling and some dual mountain biking. Having looked on a couple of forums is this now referred to as "freeride"?

I cant remember what size the frame is and I have never weighed it, I will find out both and report back :)

I would say you are looking at £200/300 tops...if you are lucky...

Lot of bikes out there at the moment for very good prices as all the new 09 models are coming in..all the 08 stuff is bargain basement ..so not a great time to be selling a MB....Im in the middle of trying to get rid of my GT RTS full float

and thats gonna struggle to get £300 (buying a new TREK fuel 09)

Good luck...

Don't think 08 bikes will be selling for bargain prices to be honest. 09 Bikes are going have some fairly big price hikes due to increase in raw materials and shipping costs.

But i would say £2/300 tops too as fairly old now [though has good components].

Is a dirt jumper, which seems pretty 'in' with the kids at the mo.

Hi guys,

I'm really sorry about the massively late response! I've just been a little busy with other things recently. I do still have this, and I am amazed that it would go for as little as £200/300, but I'll take your word for it. If anyone is interested, let me know.

Cheers

Cool. Well judging on what has been said on here I'd say £250 is the minimum I'll let it go for without ebaying it, purely because of the quality of the components on the bike. No problem waiting until the end of the month if needs be :)

Then just to be nice and because im bored of my current il give you 275 for it. that way its more then you want minimum. :)

Yay
