Thinking of blu-ray, should I go for a PS3?

Considering getting a blu-ray player as our DVD failed a while back and the xbox360 playback for DVDs is poor. Been looking around at prices of blu-ray players and they seem similar to PS3 prices. The PS3 gets good reviews for blu-ray playback. I can get a new PS3 for around the £250 mark should I go for PS3 or not?

Deffo the PlayStation3!!!

It has excellent blu-ray playback and the dvd upscaler does a wonderful job of dvd playback.

The only downside I found is that nobody has worked on a multi-region solution for dvd playback etc :(

I would say since ive had my PlayStation3 ive used more for movie playback than actual gaming.

Worth every penny!!!

A point to remember is that it doesnt have any analogue audio outputs, so you`ll need a optical or HDMI unit to do all the audio stuff.

Cheers for that Riz, might have to wait then as I don't think my BOSE system has an optical input (it might but I don't know it!! will check)

If your BOSE system does Dolby Digital / DTS surround sound then it will probably have a Optical IN but older systems only had SPIDIF IN (Coaxle).

You can get converters with convert Optical to SPIDIF signals like this Toslink Optical to Coaxial (S/PIDF) Converter as a worst case scenario.

I was happy with the playback from the PlayStation3 when I first bought it but it really threw me back once Sony started doing the Firmware updates..... the Upscaling update blew my mind away..... its wicked!

It bought a new lease of life to my dvd collection.
