Tarmac_Terrorist
Hi Folks, has anyone ant experience of retro fitting a from armrest in a MKV Golf. My dad has a 1.4TSI Sport and would ideally like to add the armrest. VW dealers say it's not possible but I've heard its a relatively easy fix? Not fussed about getting the rear air vents working - this I believe is very hard. Where would I source one from and how can I be sure I'd be getting the correct colour cloth for the specific model (dark grey / charcoal/ anthracite). Is there a fitting guide anywhere? Thanks in advance....
Matt R
Yet another dealer that knows nothing! It can be retrofitted, there is now an accessory part for this, it comes as a complete kit for dealer fit. The Part number is: 1K006112471N This part also has a recommend fitting time of 1 hour. RRP inc Vat: £192 Go to the Parts department and ask them to check on EPAC, print it out and take it to the service desk and ask them to fit one for you, easy! This Part number is for anthracite cloth, it is not difficult to get the vents to work, just requires an extra duct to be fitted, around £10ish from memory. Matt R
Any probs, let me know. I keep them in stock now, most used car buyers seem to want them these days!
Tarmac_Terrorist
I'll certainly bear that in mind! Just a couple of further quick questions: How long should they take to arrive if an order needs to be placed? and doe they have the drinkd holder / storage space with the sliding cover? Thanks, Phil
Matt R
They can be ordered overnight, but they will probably tell you 2 days even though there is no penalties on overnight ordering. The part you are referring to with the cup holder thing is not changed when you fit the new armrest, if that makes sense?? What is there now will still be there! Tarmac_Terrorist
That makes sense thanks Matt - just had a look at mine and can see where it joins on to the existing set up. Going to get some prices tomorrow form a couple of local dealers (their labour rates can vary hugely!) Thanks again
Tarmac_Terrorist
Oh dear! oh dear! Contacted the supplying dealer - Ridgeway Newbury. Ridgeway were very unhelpful (as always). They claimed that they "don't fit parts like this". Explained that it's a kit with a recommended 1 hour fitting time 9supplied part number etc) but the response was "well you can't take any notice of what VW recommend, with all the bits and pieces it usually takes much longer"! They went on to expalin that an hours labour would be £85 but they wouldn't do the job anyway as they don't do work like this. Disappointing really, I've spent almost £40k with this dealer in the past 2 years. Tried another local dealer Martins of Basingstoke who don't believe the part can be fitted on to this model! Tried Winchester Motor Company - a VW service agent in Winchester. They are looking into it and coming back with a price. Currently awaiting a call back. The car is due a longlife service within the next couple of months....I wonder who will get the business? I reserve judgement on Winchester Motor Company as they are still to respond but it seems that nobody really wants to do this job. I'm not angry, not really surprised either - just very disappointed I guess! I sometimes think a good recession will make some businesses value their customers a little more! marcospeed
Matt, Some good advice above, thanks. Im in the same boat as these guys, got a MK5 golf (1.6 FSI SE) and have had no joy with local dealers, prices ranging up to £610 which is stupid. How much fitting is involved with the kit? Does it come with all of the parts needed to install as i though the handbrake lever might need changing out?.....Or possibly even instructions? :-)
pip_jones
Greetings all ... my first post, great forum. I've just p/x'd my Golf Mk IV GT TDI 130 for a Mk V GT TDI 170 DSG at a main dealer, I think i got a bit of a bargin, but that's another story! Anyway, very happy with the new motor apart from one thing - I have no armrest, I got so used to it in my Mk IV I've decided to retro fit one. Parts guy at main stealer "estimated" about £800 to supply and fit. I told the salesman that the parts guy priced themselves out of it to discourage me from doing the job - it was like they didn't want the work! So, what do I need? A list of part numbers and fitting instructions would go down a treat. Mines the light grey trim in a silver shell. Failing that, @Matt - does the offer still stand to supply and fit one for reasonable money? I quite fancy a day out "down south". I'm based in the Northwest. Can you drop me a PM with contact details in? Beep beep
