no_idea
Does anybody know if there are any differences between the 2005 version of the RNS-E as fitted to the A4 (8E0 035 192 D) and the 2008 version (8E0 035 192 Q). If so what? There seem to be a lot of units available and the older ones are certainly cheaper.

PetrolDave
I saw all this info, but it does not go into any detail about changes or improvements, if any. That's because whatever the year of manufacture of the RNS-E it will run the newest SW with no noticeable difference in performance. The only known change, which happened around 2005, is the fitment of a different and more reliable DVD-ROM drive.

A B6 will have a radio with ISO connectors, but the RNS-E has a Quadlock - so you'll need an (easily available from e.g. Kufatec) ISO to Quadlock adapter designed for the RNS-E. You'll also need an antenna adapter since the RNS-E uses a dual Fakra for the antenna connections but the radios in a B6 use a single Fakra plus a standard car antenna connection - this adapter is also available from e.g. Kufatec. You'll also need access to VCDS (VAG-COM) to check/correct the coding of the RNS-E, change the coding of your instruments so that nav instructions appear in the DIS, and change the coding of the phone module if you have one - and clear the fault codes that always happen when you retrofit an RNS-E. t_m_evans
Dave, so other than getting a couple of extra cables it shouldnt be an issue! this is looking promising! and many thanks for your help / comments! anyone in the leicester area think they can help me with the VAG-COM programming - as i think once i have everythign else it should be just a plug and play option. PetrolDave
so other than getting a couple of extra cables it shouldnt be an issue! That's all I needed to do when I swapped a Symphony II to an RNS-E in a couple of B6 S4s. I presume you already have a double DIN radio like a Symphony II? Otherwise you'll have to do a single DIN to double DIN conversion - new mounting frame plus trimming the edges of the climate control panel.
