Riz
Personally, thats the only thing I don't like about the R32, that front bumper is just to bland, a set of fogs, or just something around that area would have improved the look no end imo. Well getting fogs can be done, few .:R owners have fitted them but that wouldnt work for me, might need the access for cooling Riz
RedRobin
.... Seen at The 'Ring very recently : - ^ Pics by 'MAT ED30' from another forum ^ The tail light clusters look so much better for having darker tints but I still don't like the rest of the rear end and certainly those exhausts don't look right imo. Riz
Its because the exhausts look bolted on, as though it was a after though? On the .:R32`s they sit more in the body work...... Riz

Riz ....I think you are absolutely right. And it's also because they sit so far towards the width extremities and are straight-cut tips rather than slashed/angled. I'm sure that Milltek will sort that out!
Snoopy
That makes putting in an aftermarket head unit awkward doesn't it!? Not really as the infos on the knobs too! Front foglights are a waste of time on cars in my opinion. They offer very very little advantage in fog - probably why the R32 never had them! I live in one of the highest points in the north of England and i find them very useful. It makes people at junctions actually see you in dense or patchy fog because they see extra lights. Were as times i have not had them on or used cars without them people don't see you and i have had quite a few near misses were people have simply pulled out. Xenon or no Xenons it makes no difference from my personal experience in my neck of the woods were as fogs have. Its another reason i won't own a gray car they blend in far too much with the road and conditions. DRL On the subject of Robins DRL, i think if it had been many years ago when police did not have as much paperwork and cared about what they do rather than viewing it simply as a job and nothing more as alot of them now do. I think he would have been stopped by now just to question it. The reason i say this is my Mk1 Campaign like every campaign/pirelli model mk1 has foglights. These replace the 'spots' on the 4 light grill. The amount of times i was stopped for having mainbeam on in bad fog back in the day was just silly but in todays climate alot of the police simply carn't be bothered. Cuprabob
Had a quick look round a white demo GTI at my dealer this morning. It looked OK but thankfully it didn't say "buy me" unlike the R32 when I first seen it in the flesh at the Tokyo motorshow in 2005.

[Waits for Mook to post what a load of shite I'm posting again] Its funny but with every generation of Golf the looks at first did not do much for me but they grew on me in time and i got to see the designer was right its why im not making snap judgments of the mk6. (looks over shoulder) It has happened with me with females too.
RedRobin
.... For me it was love at first sight with the Nk5 GTI, though I wasn't especially attracted by her fat Ford Ka style arse.

Tarmac_Terrorist
Yes, no Golf model has ever struck me as being a fantastically designed model. Each one has had to grow on me. Compared to many designs, the Golf is fairly bland as you have to 'notice it' and look for the features. I prefer cars that way. Maybe 15 years ago I would have wanted more wings, scoops, 20" Carlos Fandango's and a front splitter lower than me nans knockers, but it's exactly that sort of thing which I really dislike now. Even in the days when I liked the sort of features I might now brand as chavvy, I always had huge respect for the comparatively bland GTI as dynamically it did what other cars tried to do (until MK3 & 4 arrived!). Seen this morning! : - The guy with the 'Daddy' Tshirt turned out to be the owner and then his missus turned up - Huuuuuge arsed fatty with fag in mouth and a kid. I kinda felt sorry for the guy. I was just testing my new camera.
Tarmac_Terrorist
Appropriately left outside the Oxfam shop! I bet the owner is convinced it snaps knicker elastic from 20 yards too ..... and I hope you advised him to stick some DRL's in those spare holes at the front!! RedRobin
^^^^ Having seen the size of his missus I wouldn't want to be within half-a-mile of her knicker elastic! Poor guy looked absolutely miserable. His car seemed completely standard too and struggled with the weight of the body kit, or was it his passenger - I mustn't be so cruel and fattist. Perhaps he thought she was Gwyneth Paltrow like in the movie 'Shallow Hal'. See the guy further back waving his arms about? He's a friend of mine and ex Thames Valley officer who used to drive Police Jags back in the day.

stooH
Am I right in saying that the Mk6 is actually slightly quicker than the Mk5? When I first saw the stats for the Mk6 it said 6.9s 0-62 and I automatically thought it was no quicker than the Mk5. However i've got DSG so mine is 6.9 but the manual is 7.2 I thought there'd been comments earlier about there being no improvement in speed etc. what's the official time for the DSG version?
stooH
I've actually just answered my own question by looking at the VW site, intriguingly the DSG time is the same as the manual which begs the question have they: a) somehow slowed down the gear change of the DSG to make it more slow and clunky b) retrained everyone in the world how to make super-fast-quicker-than-the-eye-can-blink gear changes c) got their facts wrong on the website (again) Anyone know? And they're quoting worse fuel efficiency for the DSG but I thought for the Mk5 it was better?
