CaTFiSH
real difference in the price but... in the handling? how much does a michelin pilot sport 225/45/17 takes to wear out?
Drillslinger
What are you running now Dude? If you've got 195-205's as come std on the "A", then I'd say go fot the 225's, as the increased traction ROCKS!! But if you've got 225's then the extra 10mm wouldn't give you much vs cost IMO. CaTFiSH
i've 225/45/17, but the price difference on 225/40/18 and 225/45/17 is 5 €, so i can obtain some better replicas in which i can fit the OEM center cap, and of 18 inches. I hadn't done this before because the price between 235/40/18 and 225/45/17 is gigantic, however the difference between 225/45/18 and 225/45/17 is only 5 euros !!! so when my actual tyres wear out i'll install new wheels. I want to know the time remaining to my actual tyres hehehe
Drillslinger
Yeah Dude, if it's only a €5 difference, I'd stick with the 225's Just my opinion of course, I've never driven on 235's and have actually considered upping my 17's from 225 to 235, but I don't think it'll help handling as much as it'll hurt your wallet
Cupramax
If you go to 235's your speedo will be reading out by a small margin due to a difference in rolling circumference of the bigger tyre... maybe enough to get you a ticket??? Stick with 225/40x18.
CARACTERE 007
err call me thick but like how?....235 is the width of the tyre ..this cant affect the rolling radius? can it?,...im sure its the series 35/ 40 will affect the rolling radius when it comes to speedos but as long as they alloy size increases/ decreases..then itll be ok
Drillslinger
OK, Here is a decent tire calculator. It says that the std 195/65/15 wheels that are the std A3 wheels are the same circumference of 225/45/17 BUT!! 225/40/18's would be a whopping 0.4% too slow, where a speedo reading of 60 is in reality 60.3 mph But 235/40/18's are 1.7% too slow resulting in a 61 mph speed at a 60 mph speedo
Cupramax
[ QUOTE ] err call me thick but like how?....235 is the width of the tyre ..this cant affect the rolling radius? can it?,... [/ QUOTE ] Yes it does because the aspect ratio i.e. 40/45/55 etc is a direct calculation from the tyre width. A 235/40 has a larger circumference than a 225/40. gambba
Exactly as Cupramax says. CaTfish, are you running a 1.8 only? If so then any increase in diameter and surface contact will affect acceleration.
CaTFiSH
hehehe i know it, but i want a good looking car, not a race car

Drillslinger
CaTFish, To go OT a bit , can I ask how much it cost for you to get your lower front bumper color-coded? It looks sweet, and back when I first saw it helped me make up my mind that it HAS to be done But I just can't remember if I asked you for any details before
CaTFiSH
it depends where you live... for me it was 200 €, more or less, paint back, front and sides. Remember not to paint the side door moldings because it's made of rubber and it's very easy to scratch. I attach one photo of the baby ehehe... Soon i'll have my eibach springs ))
Drillslinger
Sweet, thx. I'll only need the front (Maybe sides) but I've already got the Votex rear valance, so I finally want to finish it off Was it new when you had her painted? Thx again
CaTFiSH
BTW: i think 235 would look much better )) however there are much difference in prices fron 225 to 235. The photo is 225, and the exhaust pipes of the A4 B6 hehehei don't know if i should cut a bit more the back bumper.
Drillslinger
Yeah, I'd get that cut-out a bit more if it were mine Can't wait til I can afford to have that S3 exhaust modded and fitted on mine
CaTFiSH
I painted the lowers ...hmmm i think 6 months after having the car... look at this! (not my car) the s3 spoiler looks superb.

Drillslinger
Is that the S3-Tuning Spoiler? Or a std S3 one? Looks sweet, but if I ever bought one from S3-Tuning, I'd have to drive my ass up there as y'all have been made to wait WAY too long for your stuff
ultramodz
catfish, your car's looking sweet. in the pics, what wheels are you running? are they 18" RS4's? or 17"? i'm gonna be getting some bigger alloys in a month or so, and i think the wheels you have look big enough for the car, if you know what i mean. plus 19" tyres are too expensive for me...!
