HD camcorders and DVD recorders

I'd like to replace my mini DV camcorder with an HD one.

Am I right in thinking that to edit HD recordings you need a really powerful PC? Am I best to just get a DVD recorder and plug the camera straight into it?

I was looking at SONY RDRHXD890B at Richer Sounds - HI-FI Separates, Home Cinema, Speakers, MP3 DVD Portables, Plasma LCD, etc.

There's no denying a powerful PC will handle AVCHD files better. I've got an HDV camera (HD on miniDV tape) and using a quad-core PC it still takes a while to render movies. I believe AVCHD requires even more processing power. I think a multi-core PC is a must tbh, or you'll be pulling your hair out.

As far as the camcorder itself, I can't comment. Try looking here for user opinions:

Thanks for the AV forums link Sponge+++ I see there is a thread already running on this very subject!

Been on Quidco for some time now, had around £200back so far (mainly from the wife's spending:rolleyes:)

It's a great site. I always check it before buying stuff online. I've had about £140 so far.

For the record, I bought a Canon HV30 must be 3 or 4 months ago now. I'm over the moon with it and the quality is amazing.
