HD camcorders and DVD recorders

I'd like to replace my mini DV camcorder with an HD one.

Am I right in thinking that to edit HD recordings you need a really powerful PC? Am I best to just get a DVD recorder and plug the camera straight into it?

I was looking at SONY RDRHXD890B at Richer Sounds - HI-FI Separates, Home Cinema, Speakers, MP3 DVD Portables, Plasma LCD, etc.

and one of these:

Play.com (UK) : Sony HDR SR10 E HD 40GB Hard Disc Drive Handycam Camcorder (With £50 Cashback) : Electronics - Free Delivery

Any opinions on any other kit worth looking at would be appreciated. :)

There's no denying a powerful PC will handle AVCHD files better. I've got an HDV camera (HD on miniDV tape) and using a quad-core PC it still takes a while to render movies. I believe AVCHD requires even more processing power. I think a multi-core PC is a must tbh, or you'll be pulling your hair out.

As far as the camcorder itself, I can't comment. Try looking here for user opinions:
