retepnikrap
Hi Got an A8 D3 (2004) is it possible to fit a remote start function? would prefer the Audi one if there is one. Cold frosty mornings coming up and would like to be able to warm the car up and defrost the windows before venturing out of the house. Is it possible and what would it cost? thanks

IT_S8
We've got remote start on our RS6.... Its done through a Clifford Concept 950 alarm and seems to work very well, single blip of the key fob will start the engine whilst leaving the car locked and alarmed. Even if you unlock the car with the fob and climb in it will cut the engine off if you try and drive away... Its not often a 3rd party mod impresses me, but this one is kind cool
sloss
It's not particularly good for a car to be started and left to idle when cold. You'd need a system where it fed it some pedal to keep it happy. A friend of mine has a heater in the cooling jacket of his car that plugs into the mains. It's on a timer so you can have heat in the morning right away. I think the new RR has some sort of pre-heat/start thingy. Stew,

Stew, Its always been an option the 8's I think, my operator manual goes on about pre heating the interior.. but thats one thing I don't have
Sven
One option that was on the options list is the individual (pre)heater. This operates individually from the engine, and can be programmed and (IIRC) started by a remote. It wasn't sold that much in these parts, but perhaps you'd be able to find one on ebay. Shouldn't cost you much more than €200 á €300 (EUR) imho. IIRC Audi/VW use Webasto heaters. In German it's called 'standheizung' Part nrs: 4D0 265 105 G, K & D are petrol H & J are diesel. Yep, uses a second battery in the boot on the left side, and a little control in the passenger door bin, and a small electric heater.
dalep
Yep, uses a second battery in the boot on the left side, and a little control in the passenger door bin, and a small electric heater. Sorry, its a little more complicated than that, and a LOT more expensive! It is NOT an electric heater at all it is a Webasto fuel heater that burns either petrol or diesel and the burner alone is about 1600 euros, then there are all the cooling pipes, fuel pipes and extra fuel pump. See etka drawing 261-45 Nightmare of a job to retrofit as there are MANY parts
Sven
The links & part nrs I posted are for the Webasto diesel/petrol heaters. New quite expensive, used not that much money anymore...
