Lussac
OK, I'm a complete starter at this AV stuff, only used to connecting up kit with SCART etc. Anyway have had the opportunity to completely replace all my old kit with new so have bought ONKYO TX-NR905, Panasonic Viera TH46PZ81B TV, Panasonic DMR-EX78EB DVD recorder and Monitor-Audio Silver RS6 AV speaker package. I'm OK with all the connections for the speakers but am somewhat confused about how to connect the TV and DVD to the ONKYO. Can I use the just the HDMI or do I need to use the Component Video and Audio connections connections as well. Or, better still, can someone suggest the best way of hooking up the TV and DVD to the ONKYO that will give me the least problems. In the Panasonic manuals it says to connect the DVD to the TV with both SCART and HDMI and in the ONKYO manual it says to connect the TV and DVD to the ONKYO using the Component Video and Audio connections. The satellite connections shouldn't be an issue as the TV has Freesat built in.
CarMad
On my 875 I have for video SkyHD, DVD in via HDMI, Wii and D-Link Media streamer Component. To the TV I just have an HDMI cable, best feed for a Samsung LCD that upscales all the other sources, best I think to have the amp do the scaling. Audio I have most sources coming in via Optical or Coax digital via PCM on the whole and the Wii just phono. The amp again does all the processing and throws it out to all of the speakers. Hope this helps I'm sure Gizze will be along to tell other options if I've got it all wrong.
Lussac
OK, thanks Carmad. I think I've got it clear now and have a list of cables I need to buy. Will post again if in difficulty.
Biscuits
Pretty much ditto what CarMad said, but I would do the following: Amp HDMI Out Main >>> TV = HDMI 1 DVD-R HDMI Out >>> Amp DVD HDMI In 1 TV Optical Out >>> Amp TV Optical In 1 (this will enable you to listen to Freesat through the amp) On the 905, all digital inputs and outputs are assignable, so it's pretty easy/flexible I'm having my 875 replaced under warranty for a 905... very very good bit of kit. If you have a network drive full of music, the 905 will also stream it
Lussac
Great thanks, just the info I was looking for. I've also wired the main rooms with Cat5e which I have tested and works OK so I'll be able to hook up the 905 to my router to pick up internet radio etc.
