fulcrum111
Hi Guys. I'm new to this forum. I'm impressed with the info available and the time you guys take to help people like me out. I have a question about retrofitting DIS on my Audi A4 B6 (first registered in th UK in Aug 2003). At the moment it does not have cruise or DIS except for the remaining distance on current fuel load. I'd like to retrofit the DIS but not the cruise (as the roads in Ireland don't really lend themselves to cruise for any lenght!). I've looked at the threads for retrofitting both cruise and DIS or just DIS (on cars which already have cruise). Can someone advise me on the new parts required for retrofitting DIS only? Do I only need the new wiper stalk? Also, does anyone know of anyone in Ireland that can do the coding as I don't think I'd trust myself to do it! Regarding PN of the various parts - do they need to be removed to find the PNs or are they visable without disassembly - I'm thinking of the steering wheel etc to see if my car compatable with DIS. Any and all advice greatly appreciated!
Mook
Welcome to Tyresmoke fulcrum111 Shark_90 or CraigyB are the best people on here to advise you on the parts and the work needed. I'm sure they'll be along soon.

shark_90
Welcome to the forum I don't have the part number infront of me however there are only 4 different wiper stalks you could possibly order from Audi. Saloon/Avant and DIS/No DIS so hopefully that shouldn't be too difficult for your local parts guy to figure out. If you are only fitting DIS then you should not need to change the steering wheel control module. I say should because I don't think I've ever done just DIS on a car that didn't have cruise or multifunction wheel already. There is a man in N.I. who could help you, goes by the name of Mad Mike. I did a retrofit for him a long time ago but I had trouble with my laptop when it came to coding it up, and so I had to leave without finishing as my flight was looming. Mike got a cable and did it with my telephone support and I think since then he's tinkered with VAG COM a few times. I don't know his forum username since the changeover to the new software, but I do have his telephone number so I'll drop him a quick text to see if he could pop online and say hello. fulcrum111
Thanks for the info. It would be great to hear from Mad Mike and his experiences. I wasn't holding out much hope of someone nearby who could help me out - but N.I. is not too far away! By the way, to replace the wiper stalk do you have to remove the steering wheel?
shark_90
Yes you do have to remove the steering wheel. Torx T27 on the back to remove the airbag and Torx 55 to undo the big bolt in the middle. Make sure the battery is off before you mess with the airbag

MGquattro
Hi Mark sorry for the delay in gettin back to you ..for some reason I can't log on from work at the moment. Sounds like you have a Sport model which only has miles left in tank etc. thats what mine had. With the DIS 2 enabled I was able to get full instantaneous readings etc. A number of points, 1. Do you have an avant or saloon because the avant has an additional switch on the lever to trigger the rear wiper on it as well. Mine is an avant so I have that part number. 2. When you activate the dis you will get a Low windscreen washer lever warning, our cars dont have this sensor so you will have to eithor earth pin 1 behind the dash, or get the sensor and wire it back to the dash, It depends if you want the facility. Eithor way if you do nothing you will get a continually displayed Sperm Whale... 3. My instrument controller part number is: 8E0 920 950 JX which works but I don't know if there are others which also do. I dont think the SCMS has to be changed for dis, only if you want cruise as well, but If you are going to the bother of removing the airbag and wheel etc to fit the new wiper stalk why not change the SCMS as well and go the whole hog with cruise as well. I like the cruise facility because you can knock it on along for eg road works and know your speed isnt going to creep up to ticket levels 4. I have VAG COM cable and use version 409. I am Not an expert on this, Shark90 talked me through a lot on the phone when I did mine. Hope this helps Mike+++
fulcrum111
Hey Mike, I missed your reponse here from 03-Dec! Sorry about that. In answer to one of your questions, my A4 B6 is a saloon. Per you recommendation I'm now going to fit cruise as well as DIS. I've got the washer bottle sensor, just got to get the repair wires and the cruise bits and pieces - will be talking to Vagparts tomorrow. Also thinking about the MF steering wheel, but that will be the next project! Questions: 1) How much work is involved in routing the washer bottle sensor wires up behind the dash board? 2) Where is the connector located in the dash to connect the wire to/or ground out pin 1? I saw in another thread that you took some photos of the work being done by Shark_90 when he did it for you - any chance you could share these? Cheers:grin:

Unfortunately, Mark, you won't VAGParts have been hit very hard by the credit crunch and the falling value of the £ against the Euro and they have ceased trading
fulcrum111
Feck! Maybe I'll only be doing DIS after all! Any other 3rd party parts suppliers out there like VagParts?
shark_90
Not quite like VAGParts no. Try Nelson_R32 on the forum
no_idea
I'll be honest I have nearly always found my local dealer cheaper than Vagparts anyway. Especially if you talk to them nicely about discounts.
