k6tyw
Hi, I am having some reall issues with a retrofit RNS-E, Bluetooth Module (Phone) and MF Steering Wheel that we recently fitted to my 2005 Audi A3.I hope I can get some advice???? Here we go...... 1. The RNS-E does not work correctly, when using the Sat Nav the voice directions never worked, then yesterday I was using the Sat Nav and all of a sudden I heard a voice say calculating route as I pressed to do the route. Then about an hour later I started to get the voice directing me which wy to go. Later I tried to replicate to show the other half that it did work - nothing again. It seems to be an intermittent problem. Has anyone had this or know why it would be doing this? 2. I can't get the steering wheel to work with anything. We been told to get a different slip ring and codeings so tried that then all that happened was the lights lit up on the wheel, still nothing worked. 3. The Bluetooth Module is in and the car knows its there but again it wont work fully. To be honest I am now at the point where I want to pull it all out and put it back as I had it. I have had so much trouble and seem to be getting no where fast. Can anyone help or shed some light on where I am going wrong??? Thank guys Katy
craigyb
Who installed it? if it wasn't you I would take it back and get them to fix it. Can you post the codings of the NAV, MFSW and BT
shark_90
Katy, who did all this for you? Have any of the modules been recoded? Welcome to TSN
k6tyw
These were in the car when I got it, an unfinished project and now I know why. I have tried to fatham out how to fix it but at the moment can't see the wood for the trees so to speak. I keep getting told to get different things and use different codes I am confused. I will post up the codes later tonight...... Thanks

craigyb
Really the codings are quite simple RNS-E 0209717 Is the code for an A3 with BOSE/Tel/MFSW and CD changer 0 - Default x2 - A3 xx0 - Front speakers inactive xxx9 - Sound system - change to 5 if no BOSE xxxx7 - Handyvorb (basically BT prep) xxxxx1 - No digital radio - changet o 5 for Aux inputs (SW 650) xxxxxx7 - CD and MFSW, change to 5 for just MFSW BT in an A3 0011422 Is this the right code for an A3 with MFSW 00 - Default xx1 - Comfort (Enables advanced phone features) xxx1 - MFSW xxxx4 - MFSW, RNSE Head Unit, and Diagnostics via CAN interface xxxxx2 - English (UK) xxxxxx2 - English (UK) Of course, non of this relevant if they have made a cock of the installation. k6tyw
Ok will check those thanks - so when you say have they have cocked up the install, do you mean the wiring or looms etc? I have been told that I needed to get a new slip ring and ECU I have a few of those now - like I say I have been told to get different things.... I have the original ECU that was on the car which I was told would not support the extras fitted so I was then told to get this one 8P953549 F I also have a new ECU 8P953549 AH & I have 1K0953549BK (which I was told supports everything.... I'm no good at all this, call me a beginner only thrown into it due to getting the car lol - pulling my hair out is an understatement!! So bear with me if I ask stupid questions lol
craigyb
What was in the car before? If the previous wheel had shift paddles then adding MFSW doesn't require an ECU AFAIK. But if you bought the car second hand it will be hard to tell without contacting Audi, of course if it's manual, then you wouldn't have had paddles at all and may require an ECU. I have only done one MFSW on an A3 and I swapped the ECU and loom, after coding and calibrating it all worked fine. I guess this is the important part of the wheel coding 00x?xxx: Steering Wheel 0 = 3-Spoke, w/o Tiptronic, w/o Multi-Function 1 = 3-Spoke, with Tiptronic, w/o Multi-Function 2 = 4-Spoke Multi-Function (with Radio Control) 3 = 4-Spoke Multi-Function (with Radio/Telephone Control) 4 = 4-Spoke Multi-Function (with Radio/Telephone/Voice Control) I would also add the the can gateway should be coded with the added options of Phone, Nav and MFSW
k6tyw
Funnily enough I went to Audi today and they told me what the car came with... It came with Double Din Symphony Head Unit with 6 CD & Bose It had No Bluetooth module, No MFSW, no RNS-E Sat Nav & No Paddles as you say it is a manual. So what has been added is RNS-E MFSW Bluetooth Module latest one a Q Will swap the ECU and try the codes fingers crossed it will work. Cheers you have been very helpful
k6tyw
Ok I have tried the codes with the AH ECU that is currently on car. This is the read from VagCom - I am going to try the codes with the other ECU I have over the weekend. I had difficulty entering one of the codes tonight it just would not accept it....... craigyb
Hi 0011422 was for the BT module, not the steering ECU. If you look at the codings for the radio and BT prep the yare exactly what I said they should be, but your MFSW is not. Address 16: Steering wheel Labels: 1K0-953-549-MY8.lbl Part No SW: 1K0 953 549 AH HW: 1K0 953 549 AH Component: J0527 036 0070 Coding: 0010022 I would have thought that this should be 0014022, if it wont accept it then that is a sue sign that the ECU needs to be changed for one that does support MFSW. Other than that everything looks ok and if it is not working then you either have faulty parts or a bad installation.
k6tyw
Ok that makes sense, are all the long codings ok, nothing there needs to be changed when swapping the ECU over? Just do the codes as it is wih the MFSW code an hopefully it should work - i'm starting to see some light at the end of a very dark tunnel lol Cheers
craigyb
Just been chatting to a mate doing the MFSW upgrade on an A3. It requires a revision "F" module and wiring loom, that is all. That is what I remember from doing the one I did, but I couldn't remember the module revision.
k6tyw
Oh ok, well the "F" was the one that was originally on the car so will put that back in and give it another go. All I can think is when we tried before we must have had the wrong coding - will keep ya posted cheers!

craigyb
Implausible signal is indicative of the wiring harness for the MFSW.
k6tyw
Thanks for that Craig, I don't suppose you would know of a part number for the harness that was used so I can check with what we have?? Ours is made up of 2 (which could be what is causing the problem) my original one and the Audi TT one that we were told to buy but found it to be missing a wire hence why we ending up using the 2. k6tyw
Cheers Hi ya Craig, I have checked and that is the Flat Bottom MFSW one which I have but I don't have the FBMFSW and I need the standard MFSW part number loom if you have that at all because we can't locate it? What I did do is marry in the FB loom into my standard loom....

k6tyw
I have a friend with a 55 plate that had the MFSW as standard so I am going to check everything on theirs and compare to what Ihave and also see what coding they have...... I just want to get this sorted now, its really frustrating!!!
