Has anybody got any experience using a steering wheel lock in their A3 ???

I have just tried fitting my old Stoplock but it won't go over the leather steering wheel.

As I park in a really dodgy area of Salford, I wouldn't mind a bit of extra security.

Which of these types of products fit and which are the best ???

Cheers,

Andy.

hi guys,..i really cant see the point of steering locks.....ive seen the programmes on tv,, watchdog or sommit...and err these things only deter a theif for like 2 milli seconds!!..ok slight exageration,...but these things just get kicked off,....so err waste of money?....anyway its not as if they will get away with your car,...its got to many gadgets now,...unless theyve got the key of course,...this was just my personal opinion,.....but why?...i can see a mild point in a nova or something as it might just stop that oportunist theif...but on newish cars...nah! wink.gif

I watched a program myself, (documentary on Discovery channel, sad I know)anyway, they covered all different types of lock and yes some of these locks can be just kicked / snapped off, most still give access to the steering wheel which is just cut in two places and hey presto no more steering lock. Some of them even make it easier for the twats to snap the OE steering lock. (Especially the bar type) However the disklock was the only one that withstood a viscious attack, (from slidehammer, hammer & chisel)and took the "expert"(Ex-con turned locksmith) a good 20 minutes to get off. He actually commented that most of the people in the "industry" would not even bother to try and attack a vehilce with one of these fitted, especially in conjunction with a decent CAT1 alarm immobiliser, they would just go and find another car.

Dont kid yourself many professional theives who steal to order know their way to get passed most car alarms/immobilisers especially OE systems or failing that just cut the handbrake cable and OE steering lock and tow them away or lift them onto a Hi-ab truck.

My mate runs a body shop and have seen first hand what the bastards will do to try and get your pride and joy. So anything that will take a little more time for them to steal your car must be a good thing. smile.gif

Hope this helps.

Personally, if they want the car that bad, then they'll just wait for you to park your car up and then club you over the head etc. I bought mine to deter the stupid little bastard who just fancies a joy ride.

Hey Finster,

why do you reckon silver is better - just aesthetics ????

absolutely..

Yeah I know Walmersley well - is the Lido still there? Also the Kebab/chicken takaway place near the general was a favourite when I used to crawl back to a friends place after some scoops in the town.

Yeah Lido still there although not the most pleasent place around here !

Not lived in the area for too long - kebab place still here, though the hospital has closed down...

Cheers for the advice on the lock - just have to weigh up whether its worth spending 80 quid on the disklock, as somebody said, don't know if the safeguards already in place will deter people nicking it. Anyway, they wouldn't win any races going around a housing estate in my 1.6, sure there are much faster cars to pinch !!!

Cheers.
