Need advice on Mk4 Golf seat levers

Recently bought a Mk4 Golf (1.4S 3dr)

The levers on the side of the seat to tilt them forward are missing, leaving just the metal arm exposed. The sort of brackets are still there and clip into the side of the seat, and i purchased the handles to cover the metal arms..

However, i was expecting them just to slot on and clip in in an ideal world, which they dont seem to do and was wondering if anyone has any experience in this matter - should i try and force them to clip on, or do they not clip at all?

Cant find anything through search engines about it and moving the seats is starting to become painful.
