ludwig
After just over 3 years, I need to replace the battery on my MkV GTI key. Any tips please on pulling it apart - so it separates in two halves! I could manage my MkIV key no problem. It was very satisfying not having to take it to the dealer's :-) Thanks, Ludwig
shark_90
Ah yes, you wouldn't want to take it to the dealers because of all the Skodas they have there! My Skoda key pulls apart with a little persuasion, although it won't be as well built as your VW one.
ludwig
shark_90, yes, I would expect the Skoda part to pull apart easily! :-) Ludwig

ludwig
mb, thanks. I'm using all my strength - but nothing is happening .... :-) Is there a catch or tongue you need to press down on as you pull apart? Ludwig

Vitriol
i just stopped working at a vw dealer, i used to swap the battery for free and all you paid was the replacement part.
pontyslapper
Chances are you'll need a pretty standard (and cheap) 2032 type battery. Thats what was in mine!
