Tarmac_Terrorist
On the flip side of the other thread, what are your 2-3 favourite cleaning / detailing products and importantly why? Mine are: Dodo Juice Red Mist protection detailer - easy to use, creates durable deep wet look. Thick fluffy deep pile drying towels - absorb huge amounts of water, leaves 'proper' dry surface, very deep pile non - marr finish Clearkote Quikshine QD spray - great finish, use it on most surfaces, anti static & even prevents fingerprints - ideal for glass around the home too. Duragloss 901/2 shampoo - very slick / lubricates, smells great & wax friendly.
steelwind101
Hmm, good one TT. Ok well i have to go with: Red Moose Machine Glaze. By machine it will clean the paintwork, it leaves an amazing crisp wet look, all my cars are now Metalics and Japanese so it gives enhances pearl/metalic pop! Clearkote QuickShine, a must have QD it does everything so well! Meguiars Polishing Pad; This pad is easy to use, it wont marr and is verstatile with with both "polishes" and "compounds". If you have polisher you should get atleast one of these. With Soft Buff 2.0 Versions out now all you have to do clean them is put them in the washing machine with your other detailing MF's etc. -Meguiars Quik Interior Detailer; So underated! It gently cleans, leaves a matt finish and fresh smell. Its the answer to that "i need to clean my interior dash etc". It takes seconds to do b/c you dont have to apply then buff to remove the gloss. Spray on to the MF and wipe....! Spray on to the dash and wipe and you dont need to worry about it going on the windows either as you can wipe it away! Poorboys QD+ and Pinnicle Souveran Spray wax are both worth a mention. These are great top up bling adders IMO. I use atleast one every couple a weeks! Tarmac_Terrorist
TT what drying towels do you use ? the thick fluffy deep pile ones you mention I've got a couple of these: I4D Uber Premium Yellow Drying Towel - Buy online from i4detailing.co.uk They seem to last well too - just add a little liquid non-bio and machine wash. Providing you sheet the water off your car at the rinsing stage, one towel easily dries the whole car. If you put 'TSN' in the promo box you get some discount too. JonC
I've broken the mold and gone for 5: 1. Colli 467 & 915 - incredibly durable and highly reflective. 2. Black WOW - again very durable and leaves a lovely effect on exterior plastics (GTI front honmeycomb grill) somewhere between matt and gloss. 3. AG Fast Glass - does exactly what it says on the bottle. 4. Bilberry in conjunction with the AG wheel brush - hugely satisfying cleaning. 5. Megs NXT QD. alFR
Jon, what's the difference between the 2 types of Collinite and when would you choose one over the other? I've seen them talked about a lot on here but never really seen indications for use of each discussed.
bodger00
I am a big fan of Collinite! Collinite 467 = Long lasting grea finish. Collinite 915 = Not so long lasting but slightly more reflection. Choose the
Tarmac_Terrorist
I nearly mentioned Colli 845 as I do like the wet finish and so easy / quick to apply. I believe the Colli 915 has more carnauba content providing a slightly wetter look compared with Colli 476. 476 slightly more durable although I have no first hand experience. Collinite waxes of any type are great winter waxes imo given their excellent durability.
spikeyboy
Thanks TT - very helpful as i have a couple of other items that i4detailing sell as well My list would include: 1) Megs Tire Gel - bit messy but lasts ages and looks good. 2) AG SRP + AG EGP combo - easy to use and good alround - great for wheels, zorts as well. 3) Megs NXT Quick Detailer

steelwind101
Dibbs did you get the Crystal Mist? What did you think? Megs QID is a top product! Even more so, if you have a the PB's stuff down already it will really "maintain it" if that makes sense; much like using a QD on a wax. There is no glossy film and b/c its a QD it will lubricate meaning no micro scratching on plastics or in car stereo screens which often can be seen faintly in the sunlight. I often use Megs QID as a stand alone though and i think it looks fine. TT, it does contain a little Anti Static action. Mostly, by imparting a little protectant on everything should stop natural static building up anyway. Its not a major claim with this product. You can use your QS on the interior, its slick though and a little shiney for my liking! Geoff

Tarmac_Terrorist
I understand that it isn't quite as durable as it is a liquid wax. (lots of solvents). I have applied it to various cars over the past 9 months and usually get great durability - typically 4-8 months. I once only got 3/4 months on my work car but I think there may have been an issue when I applied it, plus it really gets a hammering with road salts in winter. My dad has had it on his golf since October and it is still beading very strongly even after winter (washes weekly and garaged - covered 5k miles in this period). I will look to buy some 467 for my wheels as it's probably the best stuff for durability overall. However, I like the 845 as it gives a nice wet look and I can wax and buff the whole car in 45 mins! You can't beat the look of a fresh coat of wax on a car so would rather apply an easy / quick to use wax every 4 months as opposed to a harder / more time consuming wax say every 6 months (at least in the warmer months anyway )
steelwind101
IMO dont use 476s on your wheels. The wax is too soft and the constant heat might not break down the wax (wheels dont get hotter then black bonnets in the sun) but it will soften. When it softens, this allows the brake dust to penetrate and get "caught" in the wax layer and its a yucky mess. The wheels never look super sharp and clean. Synthetics all the way on wheels, esp. as you have mentioned you get brake dust issues like i do. Geoff
JonC
Thanks, Phil 467 in particular is incredibly durable, it will last 4-6 months easily, but as Geoff said, it's not a good idea on the alloys. I tried it and it does leave a mess and it takes longer to clean it off the alloy surface. I wouldn't use it again. SRP and EGP is a safe bet I guess
Tarmac_Terrorist
Thanks guys, I'll bear this in mind. I have 845 on them at the mo and touch wood they've been fine but as you know I don't do high mileage in the Golf. I actually decided to use wax following a previous post of yours Jon. I'm sure I read that Dave KG used 915 on your alloys because I questioned why he used 915 and not the slightly more durable 476? Previously my favourite combo was SRP & EGP. Until time to polish & reseal, I may add some Dodo Red Mist to add a sealent on top of the wax to hopefully avoid what Geoff suggests could happen. Any thoughts Geoff? It was after I had the winter protection done in December last year. We did indeed have 915 on the Monza's over the 476. Good memory

Geoff Geoff, The Crystal Mist will be ordered on Friday hopefully, I missed out on the £10 bottles, prices have just gone upto £17 !. I may go for some Dodo Red Mist QD as Phil has mentioned, always like to have 3 or 4 QD's on tap for a change !! What do you think of the Dodo QD? Hope things are ok ! steelwind101
Hi Dibbs, Things are going ok! Kinda busy with work recently which cant be a bad thing! HA! I cant believe they put the price back up but IMO thats alot of money for QD. No matter how good it is, im not sure i would pay that much. I would go for the Victoria Wax QD at about £12! The Red Mist isnt a QD so much as a spray sealant like Zaino Z8. You need to apply it to dry car, it would be similar to the Opitmum car wax you have. If you want something you can apply wet that still gives protection and jazz check out Duragloss Aqua Wax from Serious Performance. Geoff

Im sure putting on the Red Mist will help make them easier to clean and stop things brake dust bonding/breaking through so quick! If you dont notice any extra build up over the EGP combo then you probably wont have an issue. I always find waxes tend to harbour more brake dust though. I used it yesterday and its given a really deep wet look to the car, nice. I must say, maybe its me, its not as blingy as Clearkote QS but its still a tidy nice looking QD. Recommended.
