Idle speed S4

There used to be some software around called lemmiwinks, that could be used with vag-com software to tweak various parameters inc idle.

It was very often used when owners of highly tuned 1.8T's etc ditched their dual-mass flywheel and went for a ligth weight one.

I have absolutely no idea if it will work for your S4, or if its even safe to, so at your own risk as they say.

There are many guides out there. similar to this one.

There also seemed to be some results when lemmiwinks S4 was popped in google, so looks plausible. +++

The idle speed of your engine is totally controlled by the ECU. I would strongly advise againsit adding software to adjust it. It should idle perfetly smooth at 800rpm ish. If it's not running smooth there's a fault that needs rectifying, rather than mask over it and possibly making it worse.

One thing worth checking is that on the 4.2V8 the inlet manifold bolts can work slightly loose. This allows un-metered air into the engine through the poor seal between the manifold and head. Just use a torq bit to try nipping the bolts up. They should be 10nm. If they are loose I'd advise new gaskets as they're rubber and can deform if not clamped tight but tightnening the bolts may well cure your issue.

There's several things that can cause a rough idle, if this doesn't help I'd be happy to point you in the right direction.

Also, be sure you are ising GOOD fuel. These MUST run only on good quality 98RON fuel. Shell V-Power and BP Ultimate by far the best. Not supermarket fuel! Poor fuel can clog the engine up and stop it running nicely.

...and so can driving gingerly. Get out and cane the feck out of it if you don't normally. Car's often benefit from a good thrash. Don't forget a nice warm up and warm down too. ;)

Agreed. I have been pootling around town for weeks, doing less than 3 miles a day. A throttle body reset with Vag-Com sorted it out.

It goes like a raped ape again :D
