harj
Hi all Everytime i try to download the system update it cuts off around half way. Due to this i'm unable to play games online . My PS3 is connected to my netgear router wirelessly. I've dissconnected and reconnected the signal many times successfully just to refresh the connection, but this has not helped. Can anyone suggest anything else i could try, i'm really missing out on online gaming? Thanks
Mac
Typically problems with the PS3 are DNS related - it seems to struggle with DNS proxy'ing. Try hard setting your DNS to public providers such as: 84.45.18.139 208.67.222.222 Also, reboot your router. When it's back on, turn on the playstation with the above DNS entries and try again
harj
Thanks Mac, i'll give that a go and update.
harj
Wicked.....seems to have done the trick. I can now play Fifa 09 online at last!! Although the PS3 still doesn't download the update for Gran Turismo???
harj
I'm still getting problems with online gaming, mainly the connection gets lost and i get signed out of the PS network as a result. "DNS error" keeps appearing. Could this be my router? Does anyone else have wireless connection problems? Also i'm currently with talk talk broadband and will be changing to Virgin fibre Optics broadband soon, would you think that may solve the issue as Talk Talk is only 2mb and Virgin is upto 10mb? farmerpalmer
Hi harj, I am also with talktalk, and have been having "issues" this weekend with being signed out of PSN and crap connection in general. I suspect it is talktalk, rather than the router (belkin). Most of the time i have no problem I cannot get virgin unfortunatley.
burble
Having a 10Mbit as opposed to a 2Mbit connection is irrelevant really. Virgin have their fair share of DNS problems so even after you've got the Virgin line installed I'd still do what Mac suggested and enter the DNS servers manually. Is it an option to cable the PS3 to the router just for a test? My Xbox 360 was forever dropping the wireless connection but since I ran an ethernet cable there it has been fine. harj
yes, although rewiring part of the house isn't ideal.. However i'll give it a try.
burble
Like I said, try it just for a test.
Mac
A lot of routers struggle resolving SRV DNS records weirdly enough - try those external addresses I put up above, and see if they help
bullett
I had this problem. I now reserve an address on my network for most devices and everythings fine. You will need to reserve the address on the router then set up the PS3 to use that address.

burble
The process for doing that will be dependant on your router but in general it'll be an option somewhere in the DHCP server settings. Another option which gives the same net result is to give the PS3 a static IP address.
