csood
Gents, New at this site. I have a 5201 SE and am thinking of doing the chip remapping. Please advice is it worth doing? Should I go for it or not?

csood
Tks for replying. The car is an 05 plate and diesel. New shape. 1. Also, I have been offered a box, Dont know what it is called, but friend firends tell that this is same as remapping but with the added convienence that this can be removed by myself it needed. Any comments? 2. Can any one advice. What is dms? Is it same as remapping? As I have received a email reply from the company who does dms, says-the upgarde will not much diffrence in/on road performance, to expect an increase of 15 bhp and 12 lb/ft of torque. Has anyone with a 520 diesel 05 plate, done this or Is an increse of 15 bhp is not worth while?
shark_90
DMS are a company who remap cars. I don't think the increase you've been given is correct, I would probably pick the phone up and speak to them direct. I would strongly advise you to have a remap over a tuning box. SINGH
I rekon DMS think that your car is petrol, you should get a lot more out of a diesel after a remap. I have heard bad things about tuning boxes, I would pay the extra for a proper remap.
csood
Good Day Gents, Tks for replying, I am definitely going for remapping! I stay in the north east, Any recommendation for a company? or Should I just start calling and see what happens? I wait for your replies, before I start calling and any idea approx how much money its going to be?
shark_90
Prices will vary with different companies but expect around £300-£400 I would imagine. DMS are highly respected in the BMW world, I would start with them. There are good remaps and bad remaps, most will make your car faster whether good or bad so do your research and go with who you feel comfortable with. Do not make the mistake of simply going for the cheapest!!!
bazza_g
good decision to go for it and you should get a decent enough hike on a 520d - mine diesel bmw was mapped by Simon at e-maps link - he's Midlands based, where are you?
csood
Gents, I have contacted 6 companies regarding remapping. The cost are ranging between £ 250-600. Out of them, DMS was the most expensive. I have received mail from Simon as well (quoting 375). Though most of them are giving very similar improvements/Gains ranging difference +/- 5%, by basically doing software upgrade without live remapping. I live in Sunderland and found P.D TUNNING which are base in Boldon who are offering live remapping (on rolling roads), for approx £ 400. So the remapping will be for my individual car and not a generic one! Any words of advice before I go for the live remapping? Thanks in advance. shark_90
The generic/custom thing isn't as straight cut as you might think. Pretty much all custom remaps start from a generic remap and may get tweaked a little bit. If you feel comfortable with the company in question then go for it

shark_90
Quite right, you'll be very lucky to get 18bhp. Save your money.
mattwillco
Thanks for the advice. The straight six power I have at the moment is probably sufficient for me anyway.
akash
I had a previous 530d done by DPT, and the results were excellent, although I had it in eco mode. Added torque with added economy.
