I have an A6 from 2005. So it has dual zone AC but i set them both on

let's say 20 degrees and set the fan on medium blow and use the front airvents.( this are random setings for an example as nomater how I set it up it still does it). It will blow cold air just as requested for a few minutes then the vent next to the drivers door will start blowing really hot. And will not start to blow cold again until I stop and restart the engine. Can anyone help? Thank you!

Thank you for trying to help. I looked at that tread myself before thinking I might find the answer. The diference is that my AC works fine for the first 2-5 minutes blowing really cold and then just the vent near my door start blowing very hot. The weird part is ...why just one vent?! My AC is a dual zone...but still my side has two vents...so they both should blow hot if there would be a sensor other sort of problem. I tried switching to the vents near the windscreen ...but still blows hot air. The only thing that stop it for another couple of minutes is switching the engine off and back on...

I am baffled ...:ffs:

Vladmeister, i just searched the forums for the very same fault. mine is a 55 plate A6 avant 2.0TDi, which does the very same, on journeys aircon will work fine sometimes for the whole journey, other times will work for 2-3minutes before it suddenly decides to pump very hot air into the car via the drivers side vent, even closing this vent does not work. the only way to 'fix' it is like yiu say stop and turn the key off and restart. this usually wokrs, but is now becoming more frequent. let me know if you find a cure or if anyone else has experienced this and fixed it, my arm is burning!!

Hi, I couldn't find anyone yet that actually knows about this problem. I called aircon firms and I've been told is electrical.. So i called electricians but they seemed baffled. I would take the car to Audi but I am afraid they will charge me for a few hours of investigation and still not fix it. I really don't know what to do. Let me know if you find anything out and I will keep you informed aswell.

Sounds like the high pressure sensor might be playing up.. this monitors the pressure in the system and will shut down the compressor if it detects a fault.

Hi Dave. Thank you for reply. So what you reckon , maybe I should go and ask them to replace that sensor ...whithout letting them put loads of hours of "investigations " on top.

my car is due a service soon-ish, i will ask the dealership to check to see if there are any logged faults by attaching the diagnostic computer to it. they have doone this for me for previous faults which has identified what required changing, they did not charge me for the diagnostic help, took literally minutes. they got the job after that anyway £450. this was for an mmi fault, but i'm sure it would be the same for an aircon fault. will keep you informed

Nice one mate! When are you going for a service as I am trying to sort it out before september as I go for a long trip in europe. If I go anywhere to investigate it before you ,I will let you know. Thanks a lot!

I took the car yesterday to a wv audi aircon specialist. I think I can't find any better for this problem. He conected it to the computer but there was no fault comming up on it. I explained what are the simptomps wich by the way ...didn't happen for about 2 weeks now and he reckons that some engine that switches between hot and cold air might be the cause. He also said that if he would be me he wouldn't bother.. As next step would be to remove the dashboard for further investigation wich will take 2 mecanics about one day and cost around 800£

Hi,

I think you may find that it is a failing or failed air damper. he car uses certain amouts of "free air" which is either hot air from the engine bay or cold air from the outside, if its either hotter or colder outside than in the cabin, only if the temp ranges fall outside of this will the mechanical cooling or heating start. If it is only one vent, it sounds like a damper or diverter is getting stuck in a position where it is allowing hot air thru, it could also be a sensor for that vent thinking i am too cold therefore i need hot air to warm up that section and moving the damoer to the hot air open position.

It wont bethe HP switch, if this trips, you would have no cooling at all.

HTH

Have the exactly the same issue with my A6 Avant 2.7 tdi... aircon intermittently chucks out scorching hot air but only from the drivers side window vent.

It's a weird one as at the begining of a journey aircon is fine but say 20-30 mins in it'll just go hay wire and start blowing hot out of the drivers window vent to right of steering wheel.

The old girl is due a service soon will get garage to take a look, it looks like a "dual Valve" problem as previously mentioned.

There appear to be 3 possible causes and solutions:

1. AC needs a regas or has a leak.

2. High Pressure sensor is fooked and needs replacing

3. Dual valve is stuck and hot air diverts to driver side...

Will let you know what sorts mine following service.

I had the same problem and still do with my 2005 A6 Quattro, Audi said it was due to 3 relays which control the vents that need replacing, quoted £700. I found that if you turn one side to Lo and the other to Hi for a few mins then sync then both to Hi then straight to Lo it seems to work. Cant afford the £700 just yet.

try this link before you spend a lot of dough, it may fix your AC problem blowing Hot Air on side vents .... HVAC Blows very hot air on side vents - AudiWorld Forums
