Wonder if JLR still want the extra cash from the UK gov? This might also explain why second hand prices of the big Land Rover products have firmed a bit.

Production of the new Range Rover Sport and Discovery 4 will be running for five days a week from the beginning of September, according to newspaper reports.

For the last 12 months Land Rover has cut production of its three biggest models.

Sources also say that Range Rover sales jumped 50 per cent in July as result of the launch of the latest, facelifted model.

However, sales of the Freelander, traditionally Land Rover’s biggest-selling model are still moribund. Overall UK Land Rover sales are down by 37 per cent so far this year to just short of 15,000 units.

Freelander production at Halewood, Merseyside, will be suspended for ‘at least’ three weeks in September.

Later in the year, the eight-year-old X-Type will also be phased out, resulting in 300 redundancies at the Merseyside plant.

Jaguar’s UK sales are currently running at an annualized rate of around 18,000 units, but the company expects a significant boost at the end of the year from the introduction of the all-new XJ.
