Volkswagen Golf /R

The noise is what I miss, but it's not quick enough for me, even in Stage 4 guise. Lighter car and less power is what's doing it for me now, until I take it up to over 300bhp/tonne ;)
Yeah performance is like a drug, we always want more and more...... its pretty expensive to get the .:R32 tuned...... HGP is the way to go though..... HGP495 kit, Porsche Stage 5 ECS brake kit, uprated sports clutch, taller 5th and 6th gears, KW3 suspension, sports exhausts, carbon/leather bucket seats, carbon fibre body....mmmmmmm......

Had all of that apart from the turbo upgrade and carbon fibre bits on mine. You need less weight, not more:p

The one thing I would do differently on the R32 is not fit the ECS Stage 5 kit again - I run Wilwood calipers and disks on the GTI and they weigh about as much as a Mars bar - unbelievable difference in weight and responsiveness, even compared to the relatively light stock calipers and disks.

Your right about weight.... modern cars seem to be getting heavy and most around around the 1500kgs mark. You need a car to be less than 1200-1300kgs like the Porsche GT3`s :)

Even the new /R Golf isnt that light compared to the old one......

Yup your right.... they are both .:R32`s which sound good, go well, and handle ok too.... both are unique in their own rights. The MK5 is a far more comfortable and composed car for daily use and the odd blast down A roads...... the MK4 is raw.....

Whatever you do, don't get rid of yours.......

I agree the MKIV is a bit special and will go down in history as classic+++

MKV was more for the masses and the new R is even more so.

I normally get fed up with cars after 1 year but I've had my R32 for 40mths and still love it and it's a great daily driver. i just love the relaxed V6 coupled with the DSG. It's just sublime. Great mile muncher.

I don't seem me changing anytime soon +++
