e60 535d iPod integration possible?

Hi all,

New to the site and have really been enjoying reading all the content.

After fixing the audio going to try and convince the mrs to let me remap through DMS!

Quick question that I can't seem to find the answer for:

I have just bought a 2007 e60 535d m sport with the professional sat nav and want to install the iPod interface. On speaking with my local dealer the other day they explained that while they can install the cable in the glove box I won't be able to see track listings etc. (i.e. the full integration with idrive is not possible). I told them kindly that this didn't sound right and I had seen the full integration kit with tracks, playlists etc. on bmw.co.uk (!!!) they said a number of customers had said the same but that it is not available.

This seems to contradict pretty much everything I have seen in this forum and elsewhere online. Have I just struck someone with no idea or do they have a point? If they are wrong, can anyone recommend anywhere around St Johns wood (don't mind if it's a good local BMW dealer or a car audio specialist) that may be able to help.

P.S. I just got the car so I'm going to stick with the factory set-up until I can evaluate a bit more whether I need to install some new speakers, although BMW quality seems to be going up in this area versus a few years back when they used to use cheap nokia junk.

I have the DVD sat nav (is that professional?) which has the widescreen iDrive and have the ipod interface and have track listings.

Somebody at work has the small iDrive screen (and no sat nav) and has been told he can't have the track listings.

I installed mine - which just means unplugging the autochanging and removing and plugging in the module.

Thanks guys!

DaveP: Yes, I have the DVD satNav. I assume that I could install by following the same method as you. I had heard that BMW need to install as they need to plug in their computers do do some software upgrades on the iDrive to make it work but that sounds like it may not be true.

shark_90: I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to this so, why would I go for a Denison 500 over just using the BMW manufactured kit? Is it vastly superior? Do you think there are any other functions that it provides that I would find useful?

cheers again

If you have MP3 capability from your CD player (head unit only?) then it should work (it did on mine and that seemed to be the key thing - that the car was coded to cope with MP3).

When I looked, the gateway 300 gave you a bit more (switchable CD autochanger) and the 500 was better but more expensive and seemed to be vapourware at the time.

Doesn't the 500 allow you to plug in a plain USB stick as opposed to just an iPOD?
