I have a UK spec 1999 S8 4.2 V8 40 valve Auto, AQH engine.

Is it simular to the American S8 2000 - 2003 AYS engine?

I'm considering purchasing a timing belt kit that has some uprated additions.

basically yes, i am originally from the states and i have a lhd 2000 s8 manual with aqh here in the UK, i too phoned blauparts.com about many of their s8 parts as when dollar was 2 to the pound, a year and a half ago all their audi parts were half the price there in the USA. they said there was some small differences with the tensioner i think, as early s8's over here came out one year before the US model, which ran from 2001-2003. also mine has 2 small belt rollers like the one they sell for later vin's. look in the pics. you can ask them to give you part numbers and double check. from my elsawin and etos audi software, engine codes for the 360hp 4.2 40valve v8 are,

aqh-5/99 to 2/01, ays-2/01 to 9/02, bcs-9/00 to 2/01 and avp-9/00 to 9/02

aqh and avp were also available with the 6mt, manual. for continental europe.
